I thought Demeco's game plan was spot on. Instead of playing zone to prevent Hurts from scrambling, he manned up and blitzed the s**t out of them. The 49er CBs were physical all through the WRs route stem to help negate their speed. I thought of PHI as "ARI-lite" but I don't think you can blitz Kyler Murray (and his WRs) the way they blitzed Hurts. We'll see.
My all22 couldn't be downloaded and I lost access to it.
That's why they went and got Hopkins. Plus Kyler is a better player. It was a great game plan. It burned us on that last scramble from hurts that gave them that late TD.
The BS roughing penalty helped, too.
One thing I've noticed over the past few years and our struggles RE mobile QB's, some of it stems from our LEO scheme. I'm hoping to cover this at some point during the season.
I'd like to do a deeper dive into the defense and DeMecos game plan as well as covering a lot if the 2nd 90+ yard drive. Hoping for Thurs and fri
Seems like our DE's always crashes down no matter what. I swore I remember Saleh saying that they teach them to do that. AA made a good play on that 4th and goal p Philly tried. he didn't crash inside too hard and was able to pivot back to the outside not allowing the guy to run in for a easy td.
That was a notable difference from a couple of plays earlier and last week. The idea of "all gas, no brakes" sounds good but it is vulnerable to PA reverses/roll outs. Armstead has been steady other than those 2 or 3 plays where he crashed inside too hard. This upcoming game should be a good test.
Exactly. RW and Kyler will test this big time. Hurts was the warm up.
The DEs did pretty darn well keeping Hurts contained. But still there were some times where AA crashed in and Hurts had a couple nice run gains around him.
Kudos to Trey, also, for running the scouting team as Kyle had instructed him to do..ie, run a lot of QB run plays around the DEs…it wasn't perfect but was a heckuva lot better than the last time we played a mobile qb. Still, the quickness and speed of Kyler, is a concern coming up in a couple weeks.
As for Sun, if DEs crash in on ARodgers, he has adequate speed to get around them for a good gain. Trey may not have played in the W last week, but he definitely contributed to the W by "teaching" / reminding our DEs to stay wide, don't crash in and keep QB contained. We still are going to have to use that formula once again against AR or he will bite us for 8-10 yds every time we don't.
Kin helped immensely by making it so uncomfortable up the gut. But it will take a full effort by every DL for us to get the W against GB. Nick can run down AR….but not Kyler. Murray is just too darn quick , plus he has the speed. 1st things 1st however….GB
