I disagree, what the 49ers really need to take this defense to elite is a ball hawking Safety like a Ed Reed or Earl Thomas. Sure those aren't easy to come by but Jimmie Ward is just not gonna change his game and become that any time soon.

Safety isn't a issue here…when you line up DJ or a 5th rd rookie on Adams it's show over.

I was wrong about not needing more CB help when we spoke…I still think reaching for a RG over Asante Samuel Jr was a huge mistake.

But I thought Ward takes away the deep pass?? I could've sworn the deep pass was killing the defense last night or am I wrong??

Absolutely right, what gets to me is that Rodgers keeps going over the top and all we can do is slants.

Without looking at the all 22 it looked like we switched to 2 deep safeties after halftime. We got beat by single high a lot and that's the kinda coverage people were excited for when Ryan's was talking about being more aggressive.
Yea let's just trade for a top RB and let's get a top CB too.

makes sense.

Think the Giants will take Aaron Banks for Saquan?

Coming off major injury. Just what we like

Nope. No aggressive trades because even if we had a shutdown corner, it wouldn't have prevented this loss.

At some point two things are going to eventually come back to bite you in the ass:
(1) Bad drafts, particularly busting more than hitting annually on rounds 1 - 3/4
(2) Projecting oft injured players as starters

One CB isn't going to stop that bleeding. We should be asking why is Banks not playing over Brunskill. Why was Sermon drafted that high? Why was Aiyuk drafted in round 2? Why did we project Verett to be a starter with no insurance policy?

Aiyuk was a first rounder via trade up w. MN.

Good teams sometimes lose these types of games. It's early in the season with a new DBs coach and DC. Our LB coach is also out on medical leave. Pair that with injuries, and yep we got a ton of adversity.

And I think we did have an insurance policy in both Lenior and Thomas. But back to your point on #1, we are getting less production out of Thomas who was supposed to replace Witherspoon. It bad.

The defense last night was opposite of "aggressive". lol I'd say "scared" is a better word. But yah, that's what we were hearing all off season how Ryans wants to make his mark on defense and be more aggressive.......then proceeds to re-sign all of Saleh's players!!!

Sorry I just can't stand soft ass defenses like last night.
If we weren't gonna play Lance, and we are in "Win Now" mode, we should have used the picks we gave up for Lance and Jimmy G in a trade for Stafford instead of letting him go to a division rival.

I think it is too late to make a trade at this point. The only moves that make sense is to sign Sherman and let our RB's get healthy.

We are who we are

3rd round Draft picks sitting on the sideline...?

I'm with you my man I love good defense. I don't know how we don't just double Adams all game and force someone else to beat us.

2nd round draft picks not even dressing. There were a lot of people who wanted Stafford and I think if the Rams weren't so aggressive we woulda made the trade.

My thoughts exactly, time after time catch after catch we were seeing Davante Adams being covered one on one like he was nothing to worry about. Treating his ass like JJ Stokes when he was torching the defense like his name was ummm yah Davante Adams.

Now what in the actual f**k is the secondary gonna do this upcoming week with Metcalf and Lockett coming to town!!!!

We can't keep losing on and off the field. If we wanted Stafford and if we were really in "win now" mode our behavior would have been different.

Win now = trade the first rounders and JG for Stafford - offer more than the Rams.

Build for the future = trade those first rounders for a rookie QB, keep JG (start him), and wait on rookie to develop (sit him).

Either way you lose the first round picks.
