A perspective from Down Under

Hi everyone
Not a new member but this is my first post.
I am a long time Niners fan from Down Under. Grew up a kid of the 80s and 90s watching my heroes like Montana, Rice, Lott.
For an Aussie I believe my understanding of NFL and gridiron is very good but obviously my knowledge of the game is nowhere near as good as native Americans.
That said, I'd like to think I bring an outsiders perspective, and I am a huge follower of Australian Rules Football and firmly believe a lot of the principles in one football code can be transferred to another football code. For example, defence is the foundation of most football codes.
As an Aussie who has been watching the Niners quite a lot since we went to the Superbowl under Harbaugh and in particular has paid very close attention to the Shanahan era, I have to say for all the talk that Shanahan is an offensive mastermind and likely the next Belichick, the 49ers under Shanahan have an awful lot of series where they don't score and this is incredibly frustrating to watch as a fan.
I understand Shanahan hasn't had a team stacked with great receivers nor an elite quarterback, but I also think sometimes Shanahan creates his own problems. He seems to be quite conservative at times, and often outsmarts himself trying to be too clever.
Is this a fair comment?
As for the whole Jimmy G / Trey Lance thing, as much as I agree with everyone that Jimmy G isn't a great QB, I think throwing Lance into the team full-time right now could be a disaster. Look at all the other QBs taken high in the recent draft, they all seem to be struggling. As an Aussie who obviously never grew up playing gridiron (I played Aussie Rules) my understanding is QB is a very tough position to play. Not only do you need to be skilled, strong, and tough but you also have to have excellent football IQ (vision, ability to quickly process options and then make the right decision and then execute). I just feel as much as it hurts to watch Jimmy G sometimes, we are better to stay the course and let Trey develop slowly. It might mean we don'tr set the world on fire this year. But LT it might be the best option.
Anyhow, just wanted to finally make a post here and tell you all you have a massive Niner fan down under. Go Niners !!
Looks like I spoke too soon.

Yeah mate. We seem to be just a little behind the trend line at times in Aus. I think your sentiment sums up what most reasonable fans think. But are the 49er fans reasonable? I hope not. Just as crazy and recalcitrant as those descendants from ex convicts on Van Dieman's Land. Now ...where did I put my whine?

There is no coincidence that Sydney has San Francisco as it's sister city. Go Niners!

I'm hearing the crocodile hunter while reading your posts. Took you 7 years to finally post, better late than never. Liked the post, but i think we should just move forward with Lance, this team overall is good enough where Lance won't feel like he has everything on his shoulders like the other rookies do.
I think if we go with Lance for an entire game, so as a starter, then we may as well give him the keys for the whole year. And that seems to be what will happen this weekend.

Looks like Trent W might be OK, so that'll help heaps as the kid Lance will need the reassurance of getting the best protection possible, notwithstanding he is good on his feet.

How quickly can Shanahan dial up a game plan that Lance can execute well?
