Here we are again, but the truth is we have been here since 2002

Speaking of Mooch, can you tell me the last great 49er QB? Jeff Garcia. He never won a Super Bowl, and thus, for us, he never won s**t. But that dude was the last great 49er QB. Better than Rattay, Smith, Kaep, and Jimmy G. That was almost twenty years ago. I want you to think about that for a good while before you continue reading. Because our collective curse of hubris has somehow prevented us from 2002 onward to miss on getting the next great 49er QB. Forget the draft, we have colossally f**ked that up to date on picking a QB--again, here is hoping Trey breaks the curse, slaughters a chicken, and gets us back on track. BUT, we have also f**ked up the FA QB game. If we were going into this year saying it was Super Bowl or bust and we had doubts about Jimmy, we must seal the deal and grab a new QB1 from free agency or trade. Rodgers (this would have been tough, but you could still have loaded up on D, trade Jimmy for a 1984 Topps Dale Murphy card, and take your shot at Rodgers the following year--now that dude is likely going to the Steelers or Broncos or Jeopardy), Stafford (not a fan, but I would take him over Jimmy), and--my God, TB12, wanted to come home and you s**t on him. And he won number 7 with the Bucs, and who knows, maybe he could have nabbed #6 for us, but that won't happen because you s**t on the f**king boy that loved the NINERS and the GOAT so much that he grew into man and became the GOAT--Brady.

I know what some of you will say. Easy to say Captain Hindsight. First, shut it. I have been Captain Hindsight on these boards for almost two decades plying my trade in misery. When did I arrive in purgatory? 2004. One year after the last great 49er QB left town. I keep promising myself that someday you and I will get to leave and go back to Valhalla, where our championship regalia awaits, and where we can bask in the glory of a title. Don't you see? What is so terrifically terrible about purgatory is not being there. It is the hope, often provided by mirages of deliverance that is really nothing more than fool's gold, that you get to leave. As I said, I hope Trey is the one, but, you must forgive me, I have been here an awful long time. I am not sure anymore what is real or false.

On the bright side this means you get a story this fall. Stay tuned.

I couldn't agree more.

Agreed, well done.

Imo, the defense isn't too far from being solid. The mistakes are very correctable and the talent is clearly there. They just need to put it altogether.

As far as the offense, it goes as the running game goes. There have been a couple issues with the run game besides injuries. Defenses have adjusted to better combat the OZ and there have been some missed assignments by o lineman in the philly and gb games. I expect Kyle to continue to make adjustments and get this run game going again.

The sky is not falling, chicken little. I feel the talent is there. It has just been some little things that have held this team back. We could easily be 4-0 going into this game against AZ. The reality is, we are not. However, this team continues to be competitive inspite of the mistakes and injuries.
Every team is here again unless you win the superbowl. We can all kick and scream, cuss, call players names and get pissed but it doesn't change anything. Just gotta enjoy the games we get to see, no matter how bad they get lol. Take pride in staying faithful!!!
Once the QB situation is figured out and we can return the run game to the standard we've seen before with this current regime, I have no doubts the offense will click again.

Only question is when?

Defense need to get CBs next year. One more DL and I will flip out. I love DLs like the next guy, but we have enough depth now to carry the team beyond what we experienced last year.

QB and Injury situation....that's the major bane of this freaking team.

However, I like what can Kyle can do when he has all his pieces. I imagine this team is 3-1 at the least with Saleh as DC.....that's not on Kyle.

Should be interesting, but yeah it sucks getting all this humble pie constantly. Can't catch a f**king break, annoying AF....

But I must say we shouldn't be too unappreciative of Kyle either. He's done more with less in past seasons, and if anything his roster building privileges might have to be put in check.

My Redskins friend always offers good insights on Kyle and McVay........he feels they are both elite coaches and close overall but likes the Rams team building concepts more because of their aggressiveness. Pure Xs and Os, Kyle is better, but not better enough to overcome some of these issues.

Then again, McVay's teams have always been super healthy (maybe they lost Cooper Kupp for some time in recent years?).

My friend theorizes that in the modern NFL maybe the better team building motto is 5 superstars (with a QB) and the rest just JAGs. For us it would be Bosa, Kittle, Warner, Trent Williams, Lance, plus one more guy (hopefully a CB). With that you can really compete. We tease the Rams about having that structure, and yet they're ok.

I trust Kyle to figure it out. I need to (and everyone else does too). He was absolutely our edge in 2019.........hard to find coaches like that. We can whine about a few things, but Mike Tomlin has never been that. Tomlin like John Harbaugh are very good coaches but rarely punched above their weight like a Belichick could or Andy Reid. What they've had were franchise QBs (or at least Flacco playing like one for a month), with very solid rosters when they won Super Bowls. They were essentially the best AFC team bar none in those years, and didn't have a QB that would worry you.

In 2019, in the NFC the three best rosters in no particular order were the 49ers, Saints, Packers. The 49ers were the best team because of Kyle, proven in the regular season alone and doubly in the playoffs.

Since 1995, we are nothing more than the West Coast version of the Atlanta Falcons. Long stretches of embarrassing irrelevance, interrupted by great seasons that end in agonizing fashion. Same number of championship game losses, same number of Super Bowl appearances. It's a racket, and we are all gullible, masochistic, or both for continuing to care.
