I've probably been in the minority with this take as well. I never bought into the narrative that if he balls out today, he'll keep the job. Eric Davis talked about this as well saying that once they go to Trey, it signals the season is over to all veteran players, many on one year contracts. What you're saying is you are now preparing for a future, using the present to prepare for that, and many of the players won't be here for that future. They are here today and they want to win now. They don't have 6 year contracts. It also signals you're giving up on the season way early when there's still a full season to go..

I don't think it matters how he plays today. It's just film for Kyle and Trey to build on as Kyle gets him more ready for the future and learns himself, what Trey-specific plays were effective, which weren't, what he was comfortable with not, etc.

Again, once Kyle feels he can run the 85% more and be effectively consistent on 3rd downs, he'll be ready. That's unlikely at this early stage.

Huh? Eric Davis' takes are dumb half the time.

if he balls out and they win….the vets will think the season is over lol? Wtf is that? What vets are gonna be upset if they play the better player? Not one single vet signed a massive contract because Jimmy was gonna be the QB for one more yr. all these 1yr vet min deals? Who cares they would have signed elsewhere if they got offered more end of the day.

OMG stop with the 85% theory stuff. If they win games that's all that should matter. Every vet should want that…if kyle can't use Trey and his skill set to win games because he's not running this dink and dunk offense, that's on kyle.

Lol!
Yeah . . . what you said, or implied. There isn't a single veteran on a one year deal who signed on because Jimmy was going to be the QB. They're here because they got the best deal here. If anything they looked at the Niner moves pre-draft and signed on because they thought that the Niners might finally have dynamic pay at QB. With Lance they have a chance for that.

I personally feel that 4, 5 games max, given the chance, Lance gives the team as good a chance to win as the other guy and it'll be uphill from there. He has fine football instincts. With limited game experience, no game preparation or practice with the ones, he was still able to lead a long drive and produce a touchdown. With Jimmy you've plateaued and will stagnate. And you're not a serious contender. No world class WR with options is going to sign on with the Niners, because Jimmy simply doesn't give you the opportunity to highlight your skills. He's a WR destroyer. The team has to highlight the possibilities for the future to attract talent. That's important with no high draft capital for the next two years. You have the opportunity with Lance; you need to find out what you have.

It's important that Lance get reps with the #1's to build rapport. Not with the scout team. Otherwise the team is just wasting time. Wise up, Kyle. The only reason you continue with Jimmy is to hedge for your job; not for the future of the team.

Except those veterans that signed on were here in 2019. That man has a point. They, like us, all had playoff aspirations at minimum. No doubt

I don't think they are overhyped.

Greetings, Cardinals fan here. Just going to say I'm nervous about this game because the Cardinals have a long history of losing games they should win.

And I do think the Cardinals are the better team overall. I thought so before the season started and I was laughing at all the media talking heads that had the Cardinals as the 4th best team in the NFC West. Why? The Cardinals have a really good QB and a bunch of weapons at his disposal. That's a recipe for success in the NFL.

I picked the Niners to be 4th in the NFC West because I don't believe in Jimmy and the Niners have a roster of good players made out of paper mache. The one thing I can depend every year recently is that the Niners will lose 4-5 key players for a good chunk of the season and as we are seeing, this is happening again.

Why do I think that the Niners will win though? The Cardinals have struggled to stop the run. Part of that is that they have sold out to stop the pass in most games. Last week against the Rams they ran a lot of 2 down lineman looks. That's not a lot of beef to stop the run and the Rams go a ton of rushing yards against that look. The Cardinals have also struggled against the stretch zone runs and I know Shanahan is going to exploit that. Additionally Byron Murphy Jr, who has looked like a top cover corner is going to miss the game and rookie CB Marco Wilson who has played very well might as miss the game as well. RB Chase Edmonds is questionable, though I'm not that concerned because the Cardinals don't really rely on RBs that much anyway and they have options to fill his spot.

I watched tape of Lance last week and I wasn't impressed. Not even a little bit. He's going to take a lot of time to adjust to the NFL game. WIth that said, I think the Niners need to commit to him now, because he will improve more by playing than he will by sitting. It will be a long season for the Niners, but he has tools to develop and the Niners need to figure out quickly if he is the guy. I think the smartest thing the Cardinals have done in the past few years was how they handled the drafting of Rosen and the subsequent drafting of Murray. Any team who has gone through the QB wilderness of not having a good QB knows that your team should go hard after a top guy and spend whatever it takes to get a franchise guy.

Murray is now in his 3rd year and he is starting to play really well. Don't let the highlights fool you, Murray is actually the highest rated QB in the league from the pocket and is completing 80% of his passes from the pocket. His mechanics have improved dramatically and he is starting to go through his progressions and check into better plays at the line of scrimmage.

But I think the Cardinals are going to blow this one. I see the Niners winning by 10.

This dude knows our own team better than most fans in here. LOL. Welcome.

Lol. Man I needed that laugh. Honestly, I'm a ball of nerves right now. A 2-3 9ers team isn't something I think I can handle

Deandre Hopkins is a legit badass, I'll give them that. I hope for nothing but misery for Bill O'Brian for gift wrapping him to them for no reason

He's simply giving you a veteran player take at this stage of the season. Veterans aren't stupid. Trey could pull this off but they still will know it might not be because he's ready to carry the game plan every week going forward. They also know things will be limited and learning = mistakes. Mistakes cost you games.

If you disagree with that, cool.

It's still a win-win for me because he's getting real game experience here and tape and an opportunity to grow.

Dude again no vet signed a massive contract because it gave them a chance to play with Jimmy G…davis is a dummy.

Jimmy makes the same damn mistakes he made since say one…let's stop acting like he's some pro-bowl caliber QB.

I don't think Lance is gonna play great today, there's no reason why he should imo. Dude has got next to nothing in development and hasn't played real football since 2019. Still if he goes out and plays good football, you can't just go back to lame duck Jimmy just because.

Man that locker room is gonna be pissed to play with Lance lol

Man . . . but don't they just HATE playing with Lance!

I know right

Now, why would these guys be trying to support their QB today. I thought Kittle went on I.R. on purpose so he doesn't have to play with a rookie and in protest for his buddy, Jimmy.
