The answer is obvious. As long as you are in playoff contention, you start Jimmy, no ifs, ands, or buts. If out of playoff contention, play Trey.

100%

I thought winning records/playoffs was the whole point of sports. Can't believe people would welcome tanking a season if it meant developing one player. What portion of the fanbase is in a "cult" again?

Some believe we can win with Trey as much as we can win with Jimmy.

Imo they win in AZ with Jimmy and Kittle. Trey looked bad
Someone on here tried to tell me the fanbase wasn't divided. Look at this freaking poll

I tend to agree with this - with a healthy Kittle and Trey, they beat AZ.

Better than Trey who just looks a lost puppy. Jimmy hasn't been "bad" but hardly good so far

So glad our $125 million multi year vet with multiple seasons in the same system can manage to muster up a "not bad but not good" performance so far.

Jimmy struggled to move the ball against Seattle at home but people think he would have won in Arizona without Kittle.
Whichever side you're on in the Great Jimmy Debate, it's safe to say he won't be remembered in 49er lore as one of the greats.

No he DIDNT lol. He did fine moving the ball, it was getting it in the endzone that was the problem.

Meh he'll always have 2019. People remember Alex Smith fondly because of the playoff game vs the Saints despite being mediocre or complete garbage during the majority of his tenure. Nostalgia is very powerful

The Niners need to find consistency at this point. although I like lance ... at this point its looking like jimmy is our best option to get to the playoffs. The reality is this team is not a super bowl caliber team and probably never was. The NFL changes quickly and what you were two years ago is irrelevant now. So if the Niners can find some consistency and play as a unit, they have a shot at the playoffs. They still have some quality players like Trent Williams, George Kittle, Fred Warner and Deebo Samuel who are very good at what they do. Kyle Shanahan is struggling to push the right buttons to get this offense to go. Until that fact changes, were looking at any where from 6and11 to 10and 7. I think that's about the best we can expect from this group. Go Niners

Oh… you're right. And that's even worse. Lol

Start Jimmy of course and do what has always been done on rookie QBs with Lance, that is to give him time to develop. Just because you throw him in the fire now, it doesn't necessarily mean he will be ready sooner, in fact it could have the opposite effect if you are not careful. Players sometimes need time to soak things in.

We are very lucky to have an owner who is willing to put in that kind of investment to keep Jimmy all the way until the end of his contract in order to develop Lance properly and we should make good use of that time. What Jed didn't sign up for is to play Lance prematurely and to tank the team. Lance is simply not ready, he is lost out there. You can't play a future franchise QB like a power back who runs between the tackles and dives down head first in every other play. I don't think I have even seen him slide once.

Never underestimate the role of the scout team QB and how it can help to develop a QB. Lance needs to take those reps seriously. And who came up through the scout team system? Aaron Rodgers and he did 3 years of it!
