Kyle has already decided it's going to be Jimmy.

If jimmy started yesterday he would have been sacked 17 times. JJ watt would have killed him.

wrong. we wouldnt have had 234908 balls knocked down and Trey Lance would never had to have suffered that smack in the endzone.
Trey Lance is the way to go. Sorry some of yall don't see it that way.

You mean trade him right. There's no way you keep $20+ mil on the bench. Even if you don't like the guy.

They have said time and time again, it's not the money. The money is gone. It's spent. Sale item no returns. This is NOT about Jimmy G. It's not about his money. It is all Trey and what they think is the best path to his growth.

My growth scenario is send Jimmy to the bench. Trey had the sparks in game one. Now he just needs to keep playing and eventually it will all come together.

When 2022 hits I don't want us to be where we are today. They should have started him week 1.

Right, it's not like Jimmy doesn't help his oline alot with his quick release too, our oline is not elite . Hell even Williams was getting handled yesterday .

Seriously I've been harping about OL for a while. This was slowed down to 75% speed.

And it's great he did something on that play, but we've been down this road arguing that it's not sustainable for a mobile qb to overcome bad OL play. Did we really already forget the SB last year? Or that 8/9 of the top 3 sacked players from 2018-2020 are mobile qb's?
Roll with Lance. He has the bigger upside.
Shanahan wants to win. It's the NFL - he needs to win. The last thing he wants is another losing season this year and not making the playoffs, which has been the case in three of the four previous years.

He's already suggested that if Garoppolo is healthy, he's starting next game vs. Indy. Let's see if that holds true if Garoppolo is indeed healthy.

With how much Shanahan wants to win, let's see who he goes with next game and going forward this season - that will tell me all I need to know when looking at which QB, Garoppolo or Lance, gives this team the best chance to win right now.
Staying with Jimmy is just delaying the inevitable. Everyone knows Jimmy's days are numbered. If they Niners were 5-0 or 4-1 and Jimmy hadn't been hurt and he was playing really well then I would be fine not starting Trey. But he did get hurt and he wasn't playing great anyway. Very average to be honest. He has 5 TD passes and is averaging 231 yards per game. I'm thinking Trey could probably be doing better than that with a couple more games under his belt. It may be too early to give up on SB hopes but I don't think it's a strong possibility. they make it. Three of the next 4 games are against relatively easy teams but Indy and Chicago both have pretty good defenses. So do we try and win those games or go with Trey

I'm thinking the stay with Jimmy at least for those 4 games. If they can't win 3 of the 4 then go with Trey. Meanwhile they need to keep feeding him a few more reps with the starters.

Kyle has already said this. There is no guess about it.
Stick w/the FUTURE...

Screw Kyle, if I'm Grappy I'd call my agent now and tell him to send me to Washington asap... I'd give them a 40% discount as well..

There's no debate on who WILL start.

It's who SHOULD start.

Debate on!
Start Jimmy.

Trey is not ready. There are so many examples of QB's who sat for a year or 2 and it benefitted them. Trey isn't ready, and I think putting him out there when he isn't ready can be detrimental. He doesn't make the team better in the now, and he's too important for the future. The argument saying "he needs reps now otherwise it's wasted time" is false. The lack of reps didn't hurt Aaron Rodgers. More recently, it didn't hurt Patrick Mahomes. And honestly, that is the standard we need from Lance. Otherwise, the entire trade to go up and get him is a failure. If he is just "good", then the trade was a waste and has made us a worse team, because we have "good" in Jimmy G and would have had "good" at spot #12, while keeping our 3 picks in 2022 and 2023. So since Trey *needs* to be Mahomes 2.0 to justify the trade, then we need to follow the Mahomes formula. Let him sit. Jimmy starts.

To me, it doesn't really matter. Season is over. Yeah, they can go back to Jimmy, I guess. But then I hope people keep their expectations in check next year as well since Trey won't have any experience. But I know people wont. They'll expect him to come out and dominate like Mahomes after sitting on the bench for a year taking mental reps, lol.

Then we are potentially talking about having a losing season this year and possibly another one next year due to Trey's growing pains. I know Jed extended Kyle recently, but would like to see some reassurance that he's still committed to this regime or not. I'm not sure anymore. It just sounds like we're rebuilding again

But... Trey needs to be Mahomes.

It worked for Mahomes. Why can't it work for Trey?
