This Buckner discussion is really bringing out the whiniest of the fanbase.
Yes Buckner was an ironman, a great pass rushing DT and a terrific locker room guy. I'm sure every single 49ers fan would love to keep him.
Who are you getting rid of out of this group though? Because if we signed Buckner to a deal even close to what the Colts got him for at least one of these players isn't a 49er right now or won't be in the very near future.
George Kittle
Fred Warner
Trent Williams
Nick Bosa
As for your b***hing about Trey Lance...maybe hold off on that one until a few years so you don't look ridiculous later on? I had my concerns with Trey and his level of competition was one of them. He may be a rookie and need a lot of growing to do still but we can safely say at this point that the competition jump isn't an issue. He's talented enough to play on this stage.
Wait a second, I'm playing "Crying" by Roy Orbison. Ahhhhh, I feel much better. The point is competence and the tipping point from a Super Bowl contender to who knows where. Lance is talented enough to play on this stage? I'm sure the 49er brain trust feels the same way. He's starting at square 1. If there was a poll between Mac and Trey right now, who would win? If you are trading two number ones you don't settle for the possible 4th QB in the draft.
