What is the top reasons for the bad season?

The bottom line is coaching.

Our roster is better then the results even though there have been some dumb decisions there. Our secondaries and Oline needed better picks.

However, the defense is not where it was under Saleh though I would expect some adjustment time before declaring the DC is a dud. It has its moments of brilliance but still needs polishing in regard to defense play calling. It is hit and miss.

The offense play calling is off kilter and a lot of the offense are missing their assignments. This is on coaching. Why don't receivers or blockers know their routes properly? It has to be they are not putting the effort and not drilling them enough? They should be a well oiled machine but the machine is clunky.. Coaching coaching coaching.

It is too easy to blame the QB but I doubt even if Brady were hear we would be much better off. Put Trey in now and it will demonstrate the coaching problems.

Buck stops with Shanahan.

And Lynch.

Here is a list of WR that were on the 90 man roster (There seemed to be some excitement about it at the time)

Brandon Aiyuk
Deebo Samuel
Richie James Jr.
Jalen Hurd
Mohamed Sanu
Trent Sherfield
Travis Benjamin
River Cracraft
Bennie Fowler
Jauan Jennings
Austin Watkins Jr.
Kevin White
Andy Jones
Nsimba Webster

Here is a list of the current receivers:

Deebo Samuel - #1 receiver
Trent Sherfield - Disappeared from the offense - had a few highlights in preseason
Richie James IR
Brandon Aiyuk - Dog house, not the same receiver or used efficiently
Travis Benjamin - No where to be seen in the offense
Jalen Hurd IR - What else is new?
Mohamed Sanu Sr. - Hardly involved at all in the offense
Jauan Jennings - Demoted and inactive

Verdict: Looking at the list above, we basically have one wide receiver.

---------------------------------------

Tight Ends:

Charlie Woerner - Seemed to jump Dwelley on depth chart - 3 receptions in last two games
Ross Dwelley - Dwelley had one reception (two targets) for five yards in Sunday's 30-18 loss to the Colts.
Tanner Hudson - Extra tight end body - unable to land a spot on the Buccaneers' 53-man roster
George Kittle IR

Verdict: We basically have only tight end as well as he is on IR.

-----------------------------------------

Running backs

Elijah Mitchell - 6th round pick who is currently starting

JaMycal Hasty - Should be used as a receiver because of size and quickness. Shanahan the genius puts him in at 3rd and 2 and runs him up in the middle
finishing with three carries for one yard and three receptions (six targets) for 15 yards

Trey Sermon - Was supposed to be future starting running back - Not even playing

Trenton Cannon - Not used in the running game

Verdict:We basically have only one running back right now.

-------------------------------------------------

Quarterbacks

Garappolo - Has regressed and limits the offense. Turnover prone. Without a healthy Kittle, he is no more than a backup QB.
Trey Lance - Injured. Too raw. Needs development. Can't trust throwing. Shanahan not bringing him along slowly - practically ruined his career with a knee injury like RGIII.
Nate Sudfeld - Who?

Verdict: We are in bad shape as far QB goes for the rest of this season. Before the season started everyone was excited to have both a healthy Garappolo and Lance as our QBs.

-------------------------------------------------

The offense clearly does not have the depth or speed to scare opposing defenses, and it is not soley on injuries - there are healthy bodies not being used. John Lynch has done a horrible job. The offensive line is not playing well also. Shanahan and coaching staff also do not seem to know to utilize or develop the personnel we have. How many draft picks since they on board are now another team playing better, or are busts?

& no cap room to go with this championship roster.
This thread is gross....Not because it has a lot of incorrect takes, but because it might have quite a few correct ones.
Everything starts at the top

3 - Should probably have Rattay out there instead of Smith right now

You forgot:

4. Jonas Jennings and Eric Johnson are good players in theory but are always hurt.

5. Kwame Harris is not the lineman we thought he was when we drafted him.

6. Tony Parrish was decent once upon a time but now he's lost it.

7. Poor Julian Peterson can't bail the whole team out by himself.

8. We are in cap hell.

I agree: the 2005 parallels are just spooky. You can just replace the names like with like.

what is the reason??

Thought I've been laying it out there day in and day out..

It's simply because of Brick AFTERRRR Brick !!!

Injuries.

I will say this season, this can't be the excuse.

Yes we're injured but nothing like last season.

We should be better than 2-4 regardless.
All of the options are part of the decline along with injuries. We also may have over estimated how good this team would be. We were all counting on guys staying healthy which is unlikely with any team and nearly impossible with the Niners. A lot of fans were expecting a big year from Jimmy and he's having his worst year other than the injured years.
Kyle, demeco Ryan's, Jimmy. In that order
The problem comes down to execution. If it were one player that is failing to execute than it would fall on that player. Since it is a failure to execute across the board then it is a coaching issue and that squarely falls on the shoulders of the guy running the ship.

If the problem came down to not having the talent to compete, we would simply be getting blown out every week. The fact that we have been in every game so far, tells me the talent is there. The problem has been execution and that falls on coaching. It falls on the position coaches as well as the head coach.

100% Bad front office decisions with free agency and draft picks.

Bingo. We've spent 9, 1st round picks in 5 years and Nick Bosa is the only one contributing at a high level.

Deforest Buckner was contributing at a high level. We got rid of him.

Defo wasn't selected by this regime.

No he wasn't. He was a team leader though. We actually lost our two biggest team leaders from the 2019 super bowl team, Buck and Staley. We haven't been the same since.

can we get an ALL THE ABOVE option?

Yah man. This team is the absolute opposite of 2019. That year they caught lightning in a bottle, this year it's a dumpster fire. Not even fun to watch. Every. Single. Yard. Is. A. Struggle. Coach looks "Cooked".
