Frickin sucks!!
Not last in the NFC West yet, Seattle lost because Russell is hurt but yes, this team is an absolute doormat. They haven't had a quality QB since Steve Young. Hence no Superbowl since Steve Young. No, Garcia doesn't cut it either. C'mon York!
Edit. Superbowl instead of QB

I just keep thinking, if we had drafted my way...our WR'S would be DK Metcalf and CeeDee Lamb...with Trey throwing to them....
Sigh.

Lets not forget the bad trade they made for Emmanuel Sanders. A 3rd and 4th round picks for a one year rental. Smfdh!!!
He paid dividends, we got to the Superbowl because of him. Letting him go us what killed us.

Easily injuries. With Mostert or Kittle or Trent Williams or Jason V or a healthy secondary consisting of cbs not off the street or a healthy kicker or DTs we win all of our games very easily. Maybe the Cardinals game would've been a little closer but we still would've won that one. Before people go spouting off about the errors in coaching and player execution, every team has bad player execution and coaching but not every team has all pros and elite players injured like we do.
Even with the back ups on our defense and all the pass interference calls we still did enough to beat Green Bay the Cardinals Seattle and definitely the Colts but we really need George Kittle back and we can live without a Mostert but I do miss his game breaking ability which nobody else has on the team.
One of these years we will have a somewhat healthy roster, especially our best players and by that time hopefully Lance will be playing at a very good level
Other than this obvious reason we should've signed Casey Hayward or any other good corner before the season began. That would've been enough to beat Green Bay Arizona and the Colts. All we had to do was sign a corner that does not commit pass interference and we are golden

The draft decisions made were really not so good (in the past 5 years). The only two real good first rounders in the past years were Buckner and Bosa. McGlinchey and Aiyuk are solid but not more. The scouting and draft prospect evaluation are… let's say questionable from my perspective. And Free Agency or trading…: who did they acquire? Depth - yes, but that's it. Both do not act as if SF are a SB contender.
Omenihu - a good trade for sure but I don't believe that he will have a huge impact in the 49er game on a short note. It's more a good developmental future prospect. CB and Slot-WR is an urgent need. I'd like to see that SF acquire Dantzler who is discussed already and I'd love to see Gesicki in the 49ers dress, playing in the slot as in Miami. Miami declined 5th year option and so there might be a chance to get the second great TE who plays in the slot and is a good run-blocker. But this won't happen… unfortunately.

1) Trying to run it back with the same guys in 2019 that lost you the Superbowl in the first place
2) Relying on injury prone players and brittle running backs that will not last 17 game season. And if the running game stops working, then the offense stops working.
3) Lackluster free agent signings on defense. Samson Ebukam. No impact on game day. Trent Williams, Alex Mack, and Juice were good signings. Other than that, they need to stop shopping for bargain bin players. And go for some names that actually contributed in the league. Rams let Samson walk and we sign this guy and he does nothing. Verrett, a decent low risk signing, and yes, you can't predict injury. But they should have had a plan B. You can't go into a season with 1 good cornerback
4) Getting cute in the draft. Reaching for a need and drafting Javon Kinlaw after you gave away your best 3-tech DT Buckner. And his injured knees makes the entire fanbase question if it is now the right move, or if the GM really knows what hes doing. Trading up for players that Kyle falls in love with, when the GM should pull him aside and question his every move. Why is this player worth 3 or 4 picks on a trade up? What is your PLAN for these Pettis and Jalen Hurd type players?
5) Garoppolo. Yes, his play is mediocre at best. To win a Superbowl, you will need to have a brilliant GM that can put together a top 3 defense in the league and the best running game in the NFL just to have Garappolo succeed. The Niners are certainly capable of doing that, since they did it in 2019. But that kind of s**t will happen maybe once every 5 years or a decade if they're lucky. The hope now is that Trey will develop into a franchise QB, but we certainly can't predict the future. All of that is just built on hope and prayer.

They rely on guys that have never proved to be consistently starting and healthy.

HVent read the thread but it's pretty much injuries. We've lost our starting rb, te, #1 corner, 2nd lber, run stuffing DT to injuries, all are well above average if not elite with Kittle and Mostert.
Now, the argument can be made that it was pretty obvious this would happen with guys like Verret and Mostert but still.
Not drafting much immediate impact depth hurts as well.

A lot of self-inflicted wounds on our part, certainly, yes, but if the season were to end today, we're a half game behind the last Wild Card team (Carolina).
Our losses have been included the #1 and #2 seeds in the NFC (Cardinals and Packers), and two teams that should also be competing for Wild Card spots (Seahawks, Colts), and we've competed in all of those games but have come up short.
The sky hasn't fallen yet. There's still a lot of games for us to right the ship, which we certainly can. We got a lot of guys coming back in the next few weeks and there's a hope that we play a little sharper. Of course, our next two games against the Cardinals and Rams are pivotal. If we lose both, I feel the hole is too big to climb out of.
I really do think that we're going to slip into the playoffs as the #7 seed, and then we'll see where things are at. I honestly don't think this is our year, but hey... maybe we gel and can make a strong push in playoffs. Feels like the biggest problem for us has been injuries causing a lot of inconsistency. So far, it feels like Deebo, Trent Williams, and Bosa are the only guys consistently playing well.

Even with Mostert or Kittle or Trent Williams or Jason V I do not think they win easily. My problem is how many year have any of these guy played all 16 game? Why would you or the front office think or expected there going to make 16 or this year 17 game. Trent Williams this is 11th yr played 16 twice. Mostert 7yr 5 yr with 49er he has one 16 game season. Jason Verrett 7th yr and has never played 16 games, most played 14. George Kittle 5 yr and 16 game once. these are the move the front office and coach's want. I like all the player but They hardly ever make 16 games. All of them make 16 game in the same season good luck. If you build your team with player that play 14 game and miss the playoff because they are hurt with not much of a plan for when there out. Well you get to be a 3-4 and look to be missing the playoffs. I'm not blaming the player I'm putting it all on coaches and front office. It took me 5 min to look this up. Then you have a player like Joe Staley 13yr eight time played 16 game that is twice as many 16 game season as all these guy combine.

Very true that's why I wanted Casey Hayward at cb for no money! Then I wouldn't of minded a trade for CJ Henderson at cb or Gillmore....you know the DPOY just 2 years that got an INT in his FIRST GAME BACK THIS WEEK ago, who is HEALTHY despite the people crying he's old and expensive. Meanwhile our lack of cb depth cost us the GB IND ARIZ games imo. They may of not won easily but won those games all the same.
I also put this on the front office. Verrett is an injury waiting to happen. People forgot he MISSED the first 3 games last year as well. Any one of us wasn't ok with the cb situation so I don't see how our management neglected it. Cost us at least 3 wins so far
