Why don't they throw more slants? Ayuik got two and he was wide open with some room to run when they were trying to score before halftime.
I know Shanahan was a WCO guy, but it seems like he transformed it more than he should. Seems like the slant, especially out of the slot is a money play for Ayuik. We should play to the players strengths and it is also a strength of Jimmy because it isn't a deep ball.

I too facepalm because our QB doesnt throw deep enough. And by deep I mean 15 yards towards the sidelines, which I cant recall happening more than once or twice this season.

When the 49ers line up their WRs in reduced splits, it makes slant routes near impossible because there are too many box defenders to throw a slant. This happens many times throughout the course of a game.
Check the first play of the CHI where the 49ers spread things out formationally then throw the slant to Deebo (dropped pass).
So to answer your question, they do throw slants but it's not going to happen when they line up their WRs close to the offensive tackles, which they like to do.

I feel like we do. But we're very specific when we run them.
Quick Slants aren't foolproof. If a corner plays good inside technique, they can shut it down. I believe Jimmy threw a good ball to Aiyuk in the endzone in the last game, and the defender played it very well.

That and to help with blocking DEs. Saw Deebo a couple times throw a little chip block before running his route.

Yes. Check jonnydel's CHI breakdown video, the play @13:42 for a good illustration of how the bunched up formation helps outside zone runs. It brings the good run blocking 49er WRs into the equation. Notice how if it was a pass play from that formation, there is no way a slant will work.
