At least don't do it after the pass is gone. Again a bonehead penalty.

This was a really good play all around and was hoping jd showed it in his video. Since he didn't, I will. I forget the down and distance of this play because Gamepass sucks.
vs Cover 1 Robber

Blue robber takes away the slant to Aiyuk. Jimmy looks elsewhere.

Sanu can't get separation. Jimmy can't pull the trigger.

Jimmy escapes the pocket. Aiyuk cuts off his route and mirrors Jimmy to present himself as an option.

Also, should be noted on that 3rd down, McG got beat badly on the play and Jimmy barely got the ball off to Hasty.

It was actually a good pass to Hasty too. Hit him in stride and if it wasn't for Roquan Smith (fast guy) Hasty might have RAC'ed for the first down. My point though is that safeties be cheating.

Oh for sure. I guess where I'm looking at it, yes, you have to make them pay for that - and we did on the MILLS, but your OL has to hold up long enough for those stop9 routes to work. The one we threw, you see Jimmy had to slide to his left and it was an incomplete pass. You'd like for the OL to be able to hold up just half a second longer pretty much accross the board to allow these plays to develop. But, like I said on the Deebo screen, we value mobility over pass blocking - a la Trent Brown. It means you'll have more explosives running the ball but makes it harder to get explosives from dropback passing, IMO.

Yes indeed. Once Kittle comes back and wants to work the middle, the 49ers need to continue attacking outside the numbers here and there. No need to overhaul the passing game, the middle of the field is still the strength for Jimmy/Kittle/Deebo, and it doesn't have to be intermediate/deep, just spread the target location out horizontally to make defenses honor the width of the field in the passing game.

I'd love MeSean Jackson to join to club for this very reason...bring those Goodwin routes back.

I haven't seen him in a while - does he even have his speed anymore?

He definitely does. He got caught up in all the numbers in L.A. only getting 15 targets all year but one was a 75 yard TD.

Defenses will definitely have to respect his speed like with Goodwin. And he's already familiar with the system and terminology. Cheap too.

I did want to show this play but was running out of time. An example of how we made something out of nothing. There was another good example, I think it was in the 3rd quarter, we tried to hit a corner-post to Aiyuk off a shotgun run fake, Deebo run a stop DIG over the middle to try and grab the safety - who didn't bite and the underneath LB or Nickel - I can't remember which, played Deebo so Chicago did a real nice job covering it, you could see Jimmy want to go to aiyuk but they played it well - kind of what you were saying about making those safeties pay for trying to attack routes over the middle, Jimmy bought time and Deebo went and found a spot in the zones and sat down, Jimmy found him. I think it was for 12 or 14 yards, something like that.

I'm trying to find it - it may be the play right after this.

PIN concept (Post - In) is made to bust Cover3. Post from Aiyuk, Dig from Deebo.
CHI rotates to a Tampa2 looking coverage.
I think the blue defender taking away Deebo is what allows red safety to stay in place and cover Aiyuk's Post.

Still got yards after the defensive playcall defeats the offensive playcall.

Oh you made a video. That's fancy. Really was a good play. To have a WR that the QB can trust (Deebo) goes a long way when things don't go as planned.
Looking like Jimmy was throwing it to Aiyuk. Deebo was never open at any point until he ran back to the ball and caught it out of the air. Deebo a monster.

This is what we need to see more! Great play by Jimmy. Reminds me of that game winning throw to dwelly in Arizona in 2019. That's still my #1 game by Jimmy so far.

So this is kinda what the play was supposed to do - beat Cover3. The Dig sucks up the middle safety and the post attacks the vacated middle of the field. But CHI called Tampa2 so it doesn't work as planned. I think the big takeaway here is that they are calling shot plays for Aiyuk. Soon...
