Serious question - is it worse to have no hope? Or to have the illusion of hope, ripped away?
Greg Roman. Not because I want him, though.

No

The Yorks love Lynch and Shanahan too much to move on from them this season, plus, they're going to want to give Shanahan a Year 2 with Trey.

Shanahan has security through at least until next season.

This. What they need to do is stop wasting picks and resources on guys who are too raw or injury prone to contribute. Outside of Warner, Bosa and Greenlaw the defense needs to be rebuilt pretty much top to bottom.

Ford, Kinlaw, Hurd. All guys with known injury issues that they decided to roll the dice on and got burnt. It's time to stop and put in place a new philosophy that prioritizes availability+productivity over raw talent and potential.

That neither Banks nor Sermon are contributing is itself an indictment on their drafting and scouting approach. Arizona had their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks out there starting today.

They've got one year after this to right the ship. No more excuses.
Give me Lincoln Riley.

your boy Azeez had medical red flags. It's not always going to work, even if they follow that.

Just by positional value it's better to roll the dice on a productive edge rusher versus a guard. There were half a dozen other players they could have taken instead of Banks that are starting elsewhere.

It was a badly forced pick that ignored bigger needs elsewhere. It's one thing if Banks is starting and contributing as a plug and play gut bit he can't even beat out a subpar player in Brunskill. Trading up for Sermon was even more egregious. Just bad roster management and poor allocation of proper positional value.
Jim Harbaugh.

This team only had 4 winning seasons in the past 18 seasons. Out of those 4 winning seasons, 3 were done by Jim Harbaugh. Not sure how he did it, but this team is cursed and somehow Jim Harbaugh is able to overcome this.
No idea who we get, but I think our DC needs to go for sure. Defense has been pathetic all season.

Only Fred Warner, AA, and Bosa deserve to stay. The rest are trash or injury prone (Ward and Ford).

Complete defensive overhaul. That's what I think will happen.

Maybe all other good coaches will avoid this place and ownership. "If they fired Harbaugh for winning, why would I want to work for the Yorks".

Maybe it's time for Eddie D to buy the team back, he's cleared by the NFL after all or they just sell the team to another Billionaire owner like Lacob that doesn't give a crap about caps and budgets and wants to win.

You get heartbreak, disappointment, and agony for the remainder of your life. It's the 49er way under the York's ownership.

at least we had the 80s!

I feel bad for the younger fans that didn't get to experience the 80's-early 90's teams…all they've known is the York era. Brutal.

I hate threads like this because along with legit grievances, up comes potato level stuff like this.

Football is a capped sport, there is no "going into the luxury tax." The Yorks spending or not spending money has absolutely f**k all to do with the team's current issues. They gave Shanahan and Lynch well paid contracts, let them hire whatever staff they wanted and have stepped back and let them run the team as they see fit. When even Kawakami isn't blaming the Yorks, you know you've dun goofed.

Harbaugh is a flawed coach but he's the best coach by FAR of the York era.

The Zones own article on the front page even says similar, that the common denominator for this teams losing over the past 20 years is the Yorks. We know that the NFL has a hard cap, but I want an owner and team that does whatever that can to build and support a winner. Tired of the excuses, "we tried but like who we have", and the piss poor personnel decisions. It's easy to blame the GM and coaches, they deserve it. But the owners have a play in this and you can't deny their time at the helm.

The Yorks did exactly what fans had been clamoring for them to do. Hire a coach, hire a GM and then get the f**k out of the way. They've given everything that Shanahan and Lynch may have needed or wanted. Ultimately the current state of the team falls on those two and those two alone. Its not York that traded for an injury-prone Dee Ford and gave them a massive contract, blew a 3rd on Hurd and keeps bringing him back year after year so he can trip over his own shoelaces. York didn't draft a guard in the 2nd round that can't even beat out Brunskill. York didn't blow picks on guys like Pettis and now an injury-prone Kinlaw.

You can blame ownership when they get too involved and interfere with the people running the team but there's no indication that has been going on over the past few years. They've done what people wanted, its just the people in charge have made a lot of bad decisions, especially when it comes to building the roster.

At minimum what needs to happen is that Lynch moves out of personnel and they hire a legitimate GM to oversee free agency and the draft, who will take the needs of the coaching staff into consideration but what will have the final say on player acquisition.
