Serious question - is it worse to have no hope? Or to have the illusion of hope, ripped away?

Greg Roman. Not because I want him, though.

The Yorks love Lynch and Shanahan too much to move on from them this season, plus, they're going to want to give Shanahan a Year 2 with Trey.
Shanahan has security through at least until next season.

This. What they need to do is stop wasting picks and resources on guys who are too raw or injury prone to contribute. Outside of Warner, Bosa and Greenlaw the defense needs to be rebuilt pretty much top to bottom.
Ford, Kinlaw, Hurd. All guys with known injury issues that they decided to roll the dice on and got burnt. It's time to stop and put in place a new philosophy that prioritizes availability+productivity over raw talent and potential.
That neither Banks nor Sermon are contributing is itself an indictment on their drafting and scouting approach. Arizona had their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks out there starting today.
They've got one year after this to right the ship. No more excuses.

Jim Harbaugh.
This team only had 4 winning seasons in the past 18 seasons. Out of those 4 winning seasons, 3 were done by Jim Harbaugh. Not sure how he did it, but this team is cursed and somehow Jim Harbaugh is able to overcome this.

You get heartbreak, disappointment, and agony for the remainder of your life. It's the 49er way under the York's ownership.
at least we had the 80s!

Maybe all other good coaches will avoid this place and ownership. "If they fired Harbaugh for winning, why would I want to work for the Yorks".
Maybe it's time for Eddie D to buy the team back, he's cleared by the NFL after all or they just sell the team to another Billionaire owner like Lacob that doesn't give a crap about caps and budgets and wants to win.

I hate threads like this because along with legit grievances, up comes potato level stuff like this.
Football is a capped sport, there is no "going into the luxury tax." The Yorks spending or not spending money has absolutely f**k all to do with the team's current issues. They gave Shanahan and Lynch well paid contracts, let them hire whatever staff they wanted and have stepped back and let them run the team as they see fit. When even Kawakami isn't blaming the Yorks, you know you've dun goofed.

The Zones own article on the front page even says similar, that the common denominator for this teams losing over the past 20 years is the Yorks. We know that the NFL has a hard cap, but I want an owner and team that does whatever that can to build a support a winner. Tired of the excuses, sec tried but like who we have, and the piss poor personnel decisions. It's easy to blame the GM and coaches, they deserve it. But the owners have a play in this and you can't deny their time at the helm.
