This team has talent, there's no denying that. Professional football is such a finicky thing tho. You can't just have talent. I think what the first half of this season shows, is that all the little things that need to happen for a team to function well are HUGE. When your star players are the ones making the mistakes, its hard to hold each other accountable. Its a big downer on morale. These players deal with a great amount of pressure and trying to make up for another's' mistakes, just leads to them pressing and making more mistakes. Fred pretty much came out and admitted he was trying to do too much. He's an obvious leader and the team felt it. As he's settled into just playing the game within himself, its weird how things just fall into place huh?
What I've noticed in this two game stretch is that players individually are making less mistakes. They are just doing their jobs and trusting that the guy next to them does theirs. It takes the pressure off of guys who are trying to do too much and just end up in bad positions or having mental lapses. Keeping that mindset for the rest of the year will be critical.
It will also be telling to see how the team responds to those mistakes moving forward. I remember during our 2019 run, that the team developed a sort of swagger. That even if the offense made a mistake, the defense would bail them out. Or vice versa. They all trusted each other. This years squad needs to continue to develop that trust and swagger. If there's a mistake, nbd just keep doing your job and dont try to do too much and trust that the team will overcome it.
