- Play Lance. Stop wasting everyones time playing Jimmy
- Play the young corners. Stop wasting everyones time playing Dre and Norman
- Replace Sanu. Whats his purpose?
- Find a good pass rusher to play opposite Bosa. *Offseason task.*
- Start Aaron Banks. Sink or swim big fella. Brunskill aint the answer
- Cut bait on Hurd, Ford, Compton, Tartt. *Offseason task*
- Fetch trade offers on Armstead *Offseason task*
- Use all available capital to bolster secondary, oline and pass rush. *Offseason task*

Im down on Shanny at the moment but dont like the idea of firing him just yet. Lets see a full year of Lance in his system first.

Agree with everything but your first point. I mean this dude literally grew up in a house with a successful, SB winning NFL coach. He spent time with Belichik the offseason after he lost the SB with the falcons. What more can he do. If he has not learned by now he might as well just be an OC and realize he is not meant to be a HC in the NFL.

Look, I know he's not perfect and I'm not gonna be an all in homer for him right now, but just really hard to imagine a coach that has gotten a 2-14 team to a Super Bowl on his largely reinvented roster is gonna be super easy to replace and IMPROVE ON, just because one wishes it.

I think the biggest issue is personnel and assistant coaches. Fix that, and Kyle very likely is a top 5 coach again.

I also think maybe people are too down on the team as well. They're projecting Nolan/Singletary vibes when neither of those guys proved they could win anything.

Shanny already drafted a Trey Lance type.....unthinkable even a year ago today that this would be his QBOTF. Have some hope.

I think something some of the fanbase is guilty of (many fanbases, not just the 49er fanbase) is overrating and underrating their coaches/players too quickly. Shanahan balling in 2019 suddenly is Bill Walsh, and then him coming down to earth a bit , he's garbage. Same thing happened with Garoppolo, Kaepernick, etc. f**k we're seeing it with Kittle and Warner now FFS......

I have to ask fans of other teams whose opinion on football I respect for their opinion on the 49ers, because it's too negative right now in here.
The fact that Kyle got into an SB with Jimmy and Reid couldn't with Smith, either proves Kyle's potential is stronger than Reid's or Jimmy was better. Or both.

This is the macro s**t I point to for high level realization of football things.

Just like when I noticed that Russell Wilson plays worse in the postseason in rematches against teams they crushed in the regular season (back in the Harbaugh era), it kinda highlighted where he stood to me. Years later, still haven't been proven wrong.

If people think Kyle absolutely lucked into getting to a bowl (and even almost winning it), they're just not hardcore fans of the game. He is the rare exception to get to a SB in last decade without an elite QB.

It's not 2006 Rex Grossman era anymore.

That gets to the heart of the problem.
We're all disappointed over the way this season is going but we need to keep it in perspective. Remember how bad this team was before Lynch and Kyle? The rebuilt a roster with far less talent than this one and had them in the SB in 2 years. It won't be that hard to get this team back on track if they make the right moves. They don't need a total rebuild. A couple of good DBs will go a long way toward getting the defense back near the top. The D line will have more time to get pressure. The LBs won't need to cover as much and can actually plug the gaps against the run.

It all depends on drafting the right guy or signing a free agent that can still play. The draft is always a crapshoot but I don't want to see anymore high priced free agents that are shot. Sign some young hungry guys that were tired of waiting for their turn with some other team.

Or that the 49ers had 2nd ranked defense in the NFL despite consistently being put in bad positions by untimely turnovers by the offense (19th in the NFL at turning over the ball)

**NOTE: I posted this in another thread, but it could apply here**

SF has 33 players under contract for 2022, including players with uncertain futures (Ford, Hurd, Skule). But for this exercise, let's assume 32 players make the team (Jimmy will be traded). Which means there are 21 roster spots available. Here's what they should do (I'm not including most PS players):

TRADE (1):
Jimmy G

DO NOT RE-SIGN (11):
Jason Verrett
Dontae Johnson
K'Waun Williams
Raheem Mostert
Trenton Canon
Jaquiski Tartt
Josh Norman
Dre Kirkpatrick
Mohamed Sanu
Tom Compton
Nate Sudfeld (PS candidate?)

RE-SIGN (10):
DJ Jones
Kevin Givens
Trent Sherfield
Davontae Harris
Jake Brendel
Jeff Wilson OR JaMycal Hasty
Arden Key OR Jordan Willis
Maurice Hurst OR Kentavius Street
Ross Dwelley OR Tanner Hudson
Azeez Al-Shaair OR Marcell Harris OR Flannigan Fowles

POSSIBLE CHEAP DEPTH (if some of the above are too expensive):
Darrion Daniels
Jauan Jennings
Tarvarious Moore
Daniel Brunskill

By re-signing 10 players, there are now 11 roster spots available. SF currently has 5 draft picks, with another 1 (at least) coming for Jimmy and another 1 (or 2) compensatory picks. So, let's say 7 picks. Five of them NEED to make the roster. Which leaves 6 FA signings.

Of the 11 available roster spots, here's the positional need breakdown, regardless of draft pick or FA:
QB: 1
RB: 1
WR: 1
G/T: 1
DT: 1
LB: 2
CB: 2
S: 2

What do you think?

This is pretty good. We cannot waste any more everything on injury prone players. Because it's not just money or a roster spot. It's developmental time for a player that will actually be available. It's lost opportunity for drafting or free agency at positions that team leadership ignored because they thought that finally, this year, the injured player will play a full season. Not to mention morale dropping when the inevitable injury comes and the backup costs the team games.

Jalen Hurd is in the third year of a four year contract. If he misses ONE SECOND of practice AT ALL at ANY point in the off-season, he should be immediately cut with an injury settlement. No more can this crap continue. And never again do what we did with Dee Ford. Should have cut him and taken the dead money hit after June 1st.

We're 1 game out of the last playoff spot in the NFC.

If we get that spot we'd likely play AZ or GB, who we can beat.

Stop trippin

We lost to the Colt McCoy led Arizona team. I don't think we can beat them

We've been saying for years, "next year, with a healthy ________ this team looks really good".

McG has been bad at pass pro even when he's healthy and Lance isn't gonna fix that.

Brunskill has also been a turnstile and again,, Lance isn't gonna fix that.

Mack is getting long in the tooth and we have no development behind him..

Our young secondary can't beat out Dre Kirkpatrick.....

Mostert has never gone more than 8 games without getting hurt.

We have injury history and lackluster showing at the safety spot.

Our 1sr round DT to replace Buckner has chronic knee issues and just started ACL reconstruction and most likely won't be fully ready until NEXT November.

We have no 2nd DE and they've continues to rely on Ford who also can't go more than 4 games without injury.

Kittle has missed almost as much time as Jimmy.

I just don't believe we'll be all sparkly and fresh with Trey. If anything, I see the next 24 months as quite awful. It's really starting to suck being a 9er fan again......

Hard for me to see Kyle lasting beyond next November.

Wow seriously, jonnydel?

No he's pretty much spot on here. I'm not sure Shanahan gets fired after next year, though. It depends on if Trey shows promise. I think he has two years left after this one to get the 49ers back into contention.

We're about to be two games out after the Rams obliterate us. We're done dude. We have to basically win 7 of our last 9 games, with two against the Rams, one against the Titans, and one in Seattle. It seems quite a long shot.

You're going to have to either replace Lynch or bring in another personnel guy and make him team president or VP of FB ops and ask Paraag to be a consultant. That personnel person has the final say on the 53 and the draft.

I've found Grant Cohn lol. Shouldn't you change your name to NinerQC?

But yeah, this is probably right. Shanahan is too impulsive and has too much tunnel vision. Lynch is too accommodating and too inexperienced. We need someone who knows what they're doing.

I'm all for digging out Scot McCloughan from whatever rehab facility he is at and handing him the job. He might be an addict and/or alcoholic, but damn it he knows how to find talent. He's picked a ton of stars. Vernon, Gore, Patrick, Delanie Walker, Sherman, R. Wilson, Wagner, Chanceller, E. Thomas, Tate, R. Okung, Preston Smith, Jamison Crowder, I could go on.

How in the world is he not in the NFL right now? I mean there's only one reason. I say, LET him get drunk. Just keep him from drinking and driving. The dude is a talent finding savant.

Didn't the Rams get smoked by Titans w/o Henry? And didn't we beat them twice last year?
The Rams are always beatable for us.

The Seahawks suck too. That's not some guaranteed loss.

The only team in the NFC playoff picture that I don't want to face is Tampa Bay. Everyone else is beatable even though we might not be favored.

I hope you're right. But the Titans are a quality team, and they'll probably obliterate us as well.

We need an experienced and innovative DC
We need an offensive assistant to specialize in late game and short yardage situations.
We need a strength and conditioning coach who can keep the team healthy
We need a totally new talent evaluation squad. Kyle's and his guys have complete tunnel vision. They're good at picking 3 or 4 positions (SS/LB, late round RB, and decent at WR) but they miss on virtually everything else.
