idk how aggressive they'll be, they at some point in the offseason have to lock up Nick Bosa, Deebo Samuel, Dre Greenlaw, & Mitch Wishnowsky to be long term deals, after those guys, they need to identify who is worth bringing back on multi-year deals, the only 3 I see are K'Waun Williams, Laken Tomlinson, and D.J. Jones.

I've done a mock offseason as of now, here, https://49erscap.com/index.php/2022-offseason-plan/, I don't see them doing everything I put in there, nor do I think they'll redo Armstead and Kittle, but releasing Ebukam & Moseley could happen depending on their play the rest of the season. McGlinchey's pseudo extension would free up a good amount, but I might just not do it, it would give the team $7.876M in cap space by doing it, leave $5.907M in dead money in 2023, I factored that(dead money) into my future numbers at the bottom, they'll end up doing some of these moves, if they redo someone, it has to be someone who they have in their long term plans(Kittle, Trent, AA, Ward).

If they free up enough money, I think they need to fill 2 specific needs, CB & EDGE, as for minor moves, they'll need to sign a veteran QB to backup Lance.

Lol, Sherman just went on IR due to a calf issue.

That's a hells no to Sherman! And Verrett maybe as depth.

Verrett on league minimum, nothing more, any chance of getting a long term deal worth more than $5M a yr is over.

Neither. Both would be waste of roster spots. I don't even want to retain Josh Norman.

AA and Ford need to be jettisoned.

Yeah, I seriously don't get the hate for Armstead, is it because we ultimately chose him over Buckner? Or what? He's been really good, was so Monday night, the entire DL was good.

It'd be tough to get rid of Gould & McGlinchey due to the GTD money, I doubt the 49ers were ever gonna extend Mostert, they won't pay him what he'll want, likely Nyheim Hines money, $6.2m a yr, also Verrett won't get more than the minimum. As for Dee, this depends on health, they have to decide within the first 5 days after the SB whether to pay him his injury GTD $4.6m roster bonus.

I think Dee Ford is going to be an easy decision - just like the Hurd decision after Deebo started his dual threat performance. And I think if Key and Ebukam can get some traction, it's a done deal. Gould is a harder question. The guy is 38 and has had injuries these past couple of seasons, only a matter of time for him till he either retires or the 49ers get tired of his injuries. I'd say a 5th rounder to replace Gould in the draft and just eat his dead cap because by next year 19 million will be removed from dead cap space. AGree with McGlinchy, we'll have to keep him unless he can be traded to free up cap space -- might have to sacrifice draft value for cap value, for example, if his value is 3rd round - ShanaLynch - might have to drop to 4th or 5th rounder in compensation if they can relieve us of all or part of his dead cap money.

This is such a fantastic comprehensive view, AB.

My word of caution is again, like Paraag, you're looking at only OUR in-house players for solutions and spending a crap ton on oft-injured players AND relying on them based on what you're paying them.

In short, you're setting yourself up to sound like a broken record again: "We can't afford X because we don't have the cap space."

No, we don't have the cap space because we only look through a very narrow in-house lense, and spend big money on proven oft-injured players who account for very poor ROI in the end.

$30M for D.J. Jones? A 1T who plays, at most 33% of your snaps and who's oft-injured and constantly dinged up? So many of these guys like Greenlaw, T.Moore and others you can let test the market first and you can let then test it because of who we already have at their positions.

We tend to massively overvalue our own players and retain them simply because we drafted them and want the cred for higher draft hits.

If Jimmy is going to free up $25M, it's time to purge the roster towards availability and start looking elsewhere for higher ROI. This FO also needs to acquire players specific to the strengths of Ryans and Trey now too.

I'm in agreement. If ShanaLynch is jetzoning a super bowl QB (yes i said that - 2019 he *did* get to a super bowl) might as well rebuild from the ground up. Purge the roster of players that are medically unsound. Maybe you can even recover some draft capital by doing so.

Point being, if ShanaLynch goes with Lance, then go *all in* and build a legitimate and medically healthy roster around him. I'm tired of constantly being the 32nd most healthy team in the NFL. Half or our IR players can probably be all-pro if they werent injured.

Up until this season Dre hasn't had any injuries, same for Moore, that I can think of, yes Jones has had some injuries, but the past 3 seasons have shown that he's well worth the money.

I understand the worry about paying guys who are injured or injury prone. They may, probably won't re-sign K'Waun, but I would. I'd also try & extend Ward in the offseason, he & K'Waun make the defense so much better when on the field, Ward's shown he can stay healthy. I'm hoping Lenoir, & Ambry can step up, I like how far Moseley has come, he looks much better than he did week 3.

Which deals do you think are too high? I really want someone to take a look and tell me their opinions, but not someone who isn't willing to have an open mind, which I know you have an open mind.

As long as he's healthy, and doesn't do much the rest of the season, then yes, it's an easy decision, but if he does good or is injured, he'll end up getting that $4.6M, they either will save $2M(before top 51) by not paying his bonus or $2.4M(before top 51) if you pay it, and then June 1 him, as you can't do June 1 cuts until the new league year begins.
