yeah, and they spent over half those highlights trying to make it seem like it was a close game....then the final score LMFAO!

There was a time when close games were unacceptable in SF. We expected to blow out teams like the Rams, Falcons, and Saints. Hell, they would practically skip Niner game highlights on NFL Primetime because the scores were so uneven.

Now, the mentality is "a win is a win". 30 years ago a game like the Bengals would be unacceptable. Now we bask in the glory like world beaters…

Those were the days, the games that mattered were the games in the playoffs. The cowboys vs the 49ers - whoever won that, won the super bowl.
Niners win games they have business winning
N lose the ones they should win
Also home record is horrible this year we are better on the road team. I have a bad feeling about this game

The NFL has changed drastically over the last 30 years. In the pre-salary cap era you could build an empire and only a few teams got to that level so there was little parity in the league. With the salary cap, 7 playoff teams per conference, and the current rosters this year, something like 26 out of 32 teams are one game away from a playoff spot with 4 games to go. Parity is back and I, for one, am enjoying it.

I can understand why some like parity but I still preferred the days when you could build a real super team and everyone had to figure out how to beat you. Even when the Cowboys were our nemesis in the early 90s, it was always a huge game when the Niners faced them. The Niners were still good but not dominating like they did in the 80s. Classic matchups that the entire country saw every year. We don't have those anymore. There are still some good teams but no great teams.

I remember going to games on Sundays during the 80s and we expected a win. The only question was how big. Now fans go hoping for a win.

Good post.

As for back in the days when the Niners were a dynasty, I remember in the early Walsh years watching those games that were tough-fought wins (and losses) that were close, especially within their own division. Some real battles with the Rams, Falcons & Saints.

This team needs to take care of business this Sunday vs. the Falcons at home. Coming off of a strong road win vs. a good team, I want to see them from the moment the game starts Sunday looking good in all three phases in playing winning football.

Dynasties are still possible - see New England, but they have to do things differently than the '80s and '90's.

I think the best thing that the 49ers can do is to heal up before the Atlanta game. If they do that, they have the best chance to win that game, vs playing Atlanta left handed again (i.e. injuries, like last time).

we absolutely need to blow them out. Be able to rest our starters and then get ready to play again on Thursday night... I hate that our Thur game is so late in the seaso but we get the Texans after and that SHOULD be a win. ATL game is huge incase we are not playing our best ball against the Titans on TNF.

Next three games are on grass so that's going to be huge going into the playoffs - to avoid injuries as much as possible. I think I'll take a win - whether it's a blow out or another over time win like against the Bungles.

I just want to get into the playoffs, and be as healthy as possible going in - given the IR situation - as possible. Once in the playoffs - everybody is at 0-0 again.

Gotta get this game out of reach early.

If up by 3 or 4 scores late in the 3rd or in the 4th, I think Kyle gets his starters out as early as he can.

Got a quick turn around to Tennessee

A Thursday game this late in the year after an early bye is going to be brutal.

Lol are.you me?

My sentiments too

Oh look a pick 6 by steve young. Should have traded him. He sucks. Let's analyze the pass in 500 still shots.
