One play he is magnificent. The next play he makes a game changing mistake.
Shanahan can scheme open plays for anyone but he needs a QB that can execute and not make mistakes. Garrapolo juat cannot do it.
No. Kyle can scheme when he scripts. Theres a reason the team stopped playing well on offense. The Titans adjusted. Kyle got outcoached and made no adjustments. Where was kittle today? 14 rushes with Wilson? Pathetic. Shanahan is not anywhere close to where Vrabel is as a head coach. People here are just in denial.
This is not correct. What happens is, after the script is over, the passing offense must rely on the QB reading the defense. Jimmy is like Kap in that regard. Case in point: on the 4th down, Aiyuk — a
wide receiver — correctly reads that the defense is in zone, and so correctly sits down in the hole. Jimmy — a
QB whose primary job is reading defenses — throws the pass as if it's man coverage, attempting to lead Aiyuk. Jimmy claims he couldn't see Aiyuk. But he should have known Aiyuk was going to sit down, because he should have known it was zone. And he should have known the general vicinity Aiyuk would have been, because he could see the defenders sitting in a zone, and Aiyuk would have been sitting down between them.
But he doesn't read defenses post snap much at all. Never has, probably never will. He is a 30 year old rookie when it comes to reading defenses post-snap.
This is something I keep saying here: people on this forum simply haven't seen great quarterbacking in so long that they mistake what Jimmy does for it. When Trey is ready, maybe next year, but definitely in two, all those people will realize what we've been missing. And it's not just arm strength or athleticism. Trey brings things that Jimmy doesn't. Like reading a defense, protecting the ball, etc. He's not there on the former yet, because he's a rookie. But even then, Trey still sees defenders. There's a reason he went a whole season in college without throwing a pick, and it's not just the competition. He's careful with the ball, and generally can spot defenders lurking. Jimmy can't, and when Trey takes over, and our boneheaded turnovers drop, our wins are going to jump up.
I imagine then this nightmare will be forgotten. Or, god forbid, instead of a QB who throws idiotic passes, we'll have one with bad accuracy, or one who is too hesitant to throw when a defender is in his line of sight but not actually in a position to make a play on the ball (if you watch Trey's college film, this was one huge weakness, the other one being his bouncy throwing rhythm which led to inaccuracy). But even then, he'll pick up yards running when he hesitates like that, and the offense will be just a little bit better. As will the team, assuming we can keep enough of these guys about to leave.
So yeah. Wait until Trey takes over. You'll see what happens when the QB doesn't hand the game to the defense.
