Looks like Trey Lance is the 49er starter from here on out and I wish him all the best. It is very rare for rookie QB's to step in and be great and I hope Trey is the exception.
I also think it is horrible for some of the fans on the Webzone to openly cheer about Jimmy Garoppolo's injury. If I were given moderator status, I would ban each and every one of you. For life. Fortunately, I will never be given moderator status.
I think Shanahan leans on the running game for as long as he can.

Do you happen to have a link to the play? I thought that he was injured, there was just too much of a difference from the first 3 drives compared to the rest of the game.
If Trey starts, I don't think we will see any designed runs against the Texans. Maybe not even against the Rams. I am sure that Kyle will show that its still a threat but not actually run him. All those designed runs in the Arizona game were just so Kyle could put it on film, imo. Something that he could use to dictate what the defense will do with certain looks. Kyle is a genius when it comes to counters and misdirection. Kyle likes to use the defenses aggresiveness against them. I imagine we'll see alot of rpo's and rollouts but no designed QB runs.

This would be fantastic, but I'm not holding my breath.
The only thing that can stop Lance at this point is KS and his 40 runs a game strat. Let's Lance cook. You don't pay three first rounders for handoffs.
I could see this happening.

LOCKED IN
HYPER AWARE
SUPER CONCERNATION
Thurs he was unfocused, not locked in, drifty, not hyper aware, NO SUPERCONCENTRATION…so what the heck happened?. Reminded me of the great golfers, Nicholson, Tiger, Arnie Palmer …who could read every green they ever won on , like magic. And then, suddenly, one day they couldn't. And it could go from week to week.
That is where i see jimmy now. Can't read the green nor make the putt. WHY? We were favored over Titans, but no idea why. How does a guy go from hyper aware one week, locked in…to nada? There has to be something. He has the tools, but occasionally, it all goes away. Heck, he started off like a house afire…and then it all went away. Poof.
What in the heck is going on. Not seeing a guy completely covered up is one thing. But doing it again, and again? There was just no focus there. Is it a visual thing? We know he can do it. So what is the difference between last week…and this one?
One thing for sure. Stafford had a crappy game yesterday. He played terrible. But the rest of the team put him on their back and won it despite him. He easily played as badly as JG. We, OTOH, were not able to carry jimmy. Our CBs continue to be chum for sharks or in football parlance are meat for the wolves.
When jimmy played poorly, there was no there , there, to back him up. The Rams were able to carry Stafford, and ultimately won the game. That right now is the difference between LA and SF. We got nobody to carry our QB if he gets drifty…and the Rams D can carry their Qb. Our problem Thurs was nobody to pick up the slack when our QB went south. The DL was magnificent. The CBs/DBs…not so much…ok, they stunk.
And that is every bit as big a problem as when Jimmy goes off the rails. Right now if draft were tomorrow, I'd pick CB, CB, and CB with first 3 picks.
I missed the obvious…INJURY…with a fractured thumb and torn ligament, that would surely explain the poor showing in the 2nd half. It wasn't that he couldn't concentrate…it was that he broke his thumb and tore a ligament in it.
Rewatching that takedown sack, you can see where the double thumb injury occurred. How about we accept that our QB was injured and amazing he was able to even finish the game. Damn. I feel bad for not even mentioning a possible injury as a cause for not playing well. Esp with the missed passes.

Not one person thought anything of his game performance as he's been this bad before. But he's not our issue anymore
