What will Jimmy's trade value be in the offseason?

Y'all underestimate him too much. A guaranteed starter, no questions asked. Wins games, clutch, has playoff experience, and good age range.

teams that are "a quarterback away" would absolutely offer at LEAST a second rounder. Broncos, Panthers, Steelers, Washington.

Or teams like Detroit, Houston, etc that just need to start getting some stability.

Bump

This is the list with dark horses in Green Bay and Seattle if their guys move to one of the above teams. Given the size of the field and the by all scouting reports very weak QB class. So six teams. If even half are interested that is a three team competition. Jimmy is a turn key starter. Fragile maybe, but also proven himself to be the ultimate pro in handling a talented kid behind him. So you can trade for him, sign him for three years and draft a kid in 23 or 24 if he doesn't move the needle. That is late first early second round value. Could see two seconds or a second rounder and a player.

I disagree:

Panthers are not a Dumpster, they have a good D and are in need of a good QB and O line to be competitive in a division that is a year or two away from significant change. Saints have QB and cap issues, Atlanta is a mess on D and Matty Ice is getting up there as is Brady.
plus Scott Fitterer the Panthers GM is having his first stint at GM, he was head of player personnel at the Hawks before…. Next year will be his 3rd year in charge and he has a roster that has under achieved again. What he does with the QB situation for next year is big, I doubt it's Darnold or a draft pick. Clock is ticking. Draft O line and stick a steady veteran QB to play behind them. Easier than finding good Olinemen in free agency and drafting a solid QB in the draft at #6

Giants might trade up in the draft and take a shot at a top rated QB and try building with a rookie QB again, but they can build some nice pieces around Jimmy with their draft capital. They currently have the 5th and 8th pick.

Elway and Fangio are a QB away, we have a history in dealing with Elway who has tried everything to get a decent QB in Denver without any luck.

Steelers are the obvious pick.

Browns are interesting as they are stacked with talent and want to win now.

All these teams have upside and the potential to peek Jimmy's interest.

Thats 5 teams. Only need 2 to compete to get one to overpay.

Im sticking with a solid 2nd rounder

Just a heads up a lot of smoke around Fangio getting fired and all or part of that team getting sold even. They could do literally anything. Could mean a desperation play for a experienced QB or it could mean they burn the whole thing to the ground.

When you start comparing Jimmy to Winston, Mariota, Nick Foles, and Bridgewater… he's not going to be a better value than any of them with his current contract and the picks needed to acquire him.

Garoppolo is markedly better than any of those guys. His contract will be negotiated. As to trade value, you have to consider the draft slot it would take to replace him. In that case, though there is an occasional exception, you will not replace a healthy Garoppolo's production with a 4th or lower draft pick, IMO.

FTR, I hope Lance turns out to be worth the cost, and that JG can be traded to offset a portion of Lance's very high cost.

What I'm saying is in a nutshell I would want Jimmy over them but I don't think he's markedly better to warrant any trade plus the cap hit of 27m. There's no guarantee Jimmy would agree to restructure and even if he does agree to one you would have to commit multiple years to him instead of a one year rental that the other players I mentioned could do.

With Jimmy's latest injury and having Lance in the building we're no longer in a position of power because teams know there's a good chance we could be forced to cut him.

Winston had a 14-3 TD/INT ratio before his injury which is much better than Jimmy cheap no picks. He's also lead the league in passing yards (and ints) but there's still some raw talent there.

Foles actually won a Super Bowl, bigger arm, and would be very cheap no picks.

Mariota has all the tools Jimmy has and more IMO and would be much cheaper no picks.

As for the bolded, that's what I'm hoping for too. For the sake of the team I hope I'm wrong and we get something good for Jimmy. That would be awesome. There's no reason to root for anything else… I just don't see it happening sadly.

$27M will be the 11th highest salary next season, and probably 15th or lower after that. His next contract will be worth more than $27M per season. And we'll get at least a 2nd/conditional 1st for him. The JG haters on this board must not watch other teams because he's absolutely better than 15 other starting QB's, and when healthy is in the top 10-12.
This is what I don't get. People talking about the 27 million like its 2012. Its literally one year and even that amount can be negotiated. Jimmy for a fast approaching middle of the pack salary is worth it if you are a team with no good QB options.

I learned in the Jimmy thread that QBs have records, and that's all that matters. So why would the Saints gut their team to clear salary, trade draft picks, only to replace a guy who has a .714 winning percentage with them?

Well technically their starter is 33-44 (Winston). If you are honestly referring to Taysom Hill I would say you are being perhaps disingenuous as he is 6-2 lol.

Not sure what you are talking about. Winston has a .714 winning percentage as the Saints QB.

5-2 lol

33-44 career and prior to Saints he was with a team you may be familiar with the guys who won the Super Bowl last year the Bucs and Arians lol. Somehow had a losing record with BA, Leftwich and Todd Bowles. But yeah keep talking up his 5 wins

I can't believe folks are selling that record. So seven games is all it takes to undo a 5 year track record. With that said, I do think the Saints are satisfied with Winston.

2nd round pick or higher. I'm even okay with more than just a 2nd; meaning a conditional 1st or a 2nd and a player or a 2nd and an additional pick. So if it's just a 2nd or less, you win.

I'm happy with a 5th.

Are you aware of the market for quarterbacks for say the last 10 years? You'd trade an average to above average starter at quarterback for a player that is likely to be a career backup at some random position (realistic expectations for a 5th round pick)?
Sam Darnold was traded for a 2021 6th and 2022 2nd and 4th. And the Panthers immediately picked up Darnold's 5th years option--a GUARANTEED $19MM in 2022.

For SAM. DARNOLD.

Don't tell me he was traded because of his age or potential. He was crap with the Jets and is crap with the Panthers. Oh, and he has an injury history, too.

This should be the baseline for a Jimmy trade. Especially since his salary is non-guaranteed and can easily be renegotiated by another team.

Jimmy, in every possible way, > Sam.

Totally agree with you here Blake.

So don't tell you something that is actually factual lol? If they didn't trade for his age and potential, what exactly did they trade for him then?

The problem with your thinking is Sam was much younger and was playing for a terrible team. It was easier for another team to look at his age and situation and think they would be able to develop him. Contrast that to Jimmy who isn't a young player still developing, has the injury history and is playing for one of the best play designers in the game. Where's his upside? He doesn't have one.

I agree. What Jimmy has shown on tape will have to be good enough, there is no upside to Jimmy. But he is better than about 15 starters in the league and it only takes one team to pull the trigger.

you arent trading him to be a franchise qb though which was the appeal for sam.

you are trading him to a team who is a decent qb away from the playoffs and is willing to draft a qb to develop under him. He will be traded as a 2 year starter most likely and these are the teams that will be open to the trade imo

Saints
Panthers
Steelers
Broncos
Browns

i think the team most willing to pull of the trade would be steelers and browns. Steelers have a complete roster minus a QB and i think browns are in the same boat.

Three things:
1) Sam Darnold proved NOTHING in the league to warrant that compensation. Jimmy has proven a helluva lot more.
2) Just like FA deals that "reset the market", if Im Lynch and Paraag, Im pointing to Darnold's trade compensation and saying, "Look, Sam was bad before and after the trade. Yet, that's the market rate." So that's where bidding should begin.
3) Lastly, sometimes performance trumps potential. Let's hope this is one of those times.

In the end, THANKS, PANTHERS!!!

Jimmy has proven more than Darnold. He's proven that he's an average to above average QB who can't move well and has a limited throwing range.

Darnold was terrible with the Jets. but everyone has been terrible with the Jets. Wilson got benched for awhile and still isn't playing great. Teams always think that a player will be better in their system. They feel that better players around him and a better structure will change everything. It's why you see troubled players that are talented but keep getting cut picked up by another team. They always think that they're the team that can bring out the best. Sometimes that's true and sometimes it isn't.

If some team is looking for a 2 year fill in that can play halfway decent then Jimmy might be their guy. I say might because there's no way to know if he can stay healthy for 2 straight years. He hasn't yet.
