Jimmy is a marginal talent that gets hurt a lot. Every team knows what he is. The shoulder surgery that will prevent him from throwing until training camp just made things worse. A lot of fans were hoping for a 1st or multiple lower picks when this whole thing started. Now people are willing to settle for a 4th or 5th rounder. With most teams eliminated from the bidding, NO can just lowball them and hope Lynch says okay. He doesn't have the upper hand. It's not like JG is the missing piece for a SB run in NO. He's probably only going to start for a couple of years until they draft or sign someone else.

It's possible a team offered that when Jimmy had his no trade clause and shut it down. But Gardner Minshew went for a measly 6th round comp pick and I think they are similar players.

And even if they have Jimmy as Trey's backup....What happens if Trey gets off to a slow start and we go 1-2 in our 1st 3 games? Will Kyle just panic and bench him for Jimmy?

This is why Jimmy can't be here next season. Trey is going to have his growing pains early but the plan is to have him be really good by midseason and have the Niners just tread water until until then. But I don't think he would be given the chance to work out his early struggles if Jimmy is still here. Need to fully commit to Trey.
