I think it's clear what's happening.
1. Shanalynch don't want to Part ways for Jimmy for less than a 2nd. They figure they will get a 3rd comp next year anyway.
2. Better to have Jimmy as insurance or maybe even start if trey still isn't ready.
3. They have the cap space to keep Jimmy at this point. This year is going to be a throw away year.

This is why Jimmy can't be here next season. Trey is going to have his growing pains early but the plan is to have him be really good by midseason and have the Niners just tread water until until then. But I don't think he would be given the chance to work out his early struggles if Jimmy is still here. Need to fully commit to Trey.

Lynch better get 2 2nds at this point or this whole process was a colossal waste of time and he should've taken a 3rd 2 weeks ago so the Niners would've had cap space in free agency.
