LOL, this conspiracy theory about Jimmy is funny.
Say what you will about the guy's skill level, but the man played through a chipped bone and torn ligament in his throwing hand. I can only imagine how much that hurts. He endured a season where he had to answer questions on a near-weekly basis about how he felt being the starter and having his replacement under him. And he played and competed his butt off.
This is a competitive QB that wants to win a Super Bowl.
Ideally, Jimmy would've gone into the offseason healthy, and get traded to a competitive team of his choice while he still had his No Trade Clause and a team was willing to absorb his salary as-is. The shoulder surgery hurts him immensely. At the rate this is going, he's not going to get cut/traded until his shoulder is healed, and it's going to be relatively late in the offseason when all the other QB dominoes have fallen. As a free agent, he's likely going to end up on a bad team and/or a bad QB situation, presumably at a lower contract price than his $27M. Or, if he stays, he could still earn the $27M, but it's gonna be a long awkward season being on a team that, at the end of the day, doesn't want him and has his replacement.
The surgery needed to happen for his long-term health as a QB, but it really hurt him in the short-run on where he goes in terms of QB situation this offseason.
It's a good post Wubbie.
