They probably have to factor in time. I mean the flight from whereever Mexico to SF might be shorter than the flight from SF to Seattle. If they were playing in London they would definitely have the bye after that trip

When Sherman was talking about Jimmy still being here he mentioned the rumor schedule leak has the Niners starting with the Falcons and Panthers. That would be ideal, Even it it means starting with 2 straight road games.

I think it is because of the warmer weather at Levi's. They usually start on the road and then have an early primetime game so fans aren't getting cooked.

Heard this rumor:

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to play the San Fransisco 49ers for Monday Night Football, rumoured to be on December 12th. This seems to be the game the Raiders will dedicate to John Madden because of the famous Raiders-Niners games he called over the years.

Not sure of it's validity though.
