It's not going to happen, but what if the 49ers won the Super Bowl bc of Jimmy G'

Trade regardless. We know he's mediocre. Move on

Deebo just named all pro. There is no way in hell Jimmy is gonna play for 10m per year. We have no cap space to keep this team intact with Jimmy at his ridiculous contract number. Jimmy is done here. Inconsistent as frick and injury prone. Could be an ugly scenario with James fans if he takes us deep into the playoffs
Lawrence, Wilson and Fields have taken their lumps this year, they should be more advanced next year. Lance has not taken any lumps so there goes a year getting them. The team around him will not be getting younger while he goes through his apprentice year or two. If Shanahan thought he was ready he would've started when we were losing. he didn't. Jimmy's major fault is getting injured, and it's a big fault. Let's let these next games (I Hope) play out.
isn't this just another JG value thread ?
What happens? We celebrate and thank the football gods for giving us a problem that every other fanbase wishes it would have. The end.

Then we trade him to the Rams for 20 1st round picks.
It would be a tough spot for Shanalynch but at the same time an opportunity to establish legend status by winning it all with two different qbs in a short period of time.

I'm ready to move on, but I wouldn't be surprised if we do keep him. Lance is still very raw. I'd like for him to get the 1st team reps to kind of fast track that development, but i wouldn't be surprised if KS think he needs another year of "seasoning".

If Jimmy leads the team to a SB win, you don't just get rid of that. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to keep him and Deebo and Bosa. Its really going to be up to KS and whether he thinks Trey is far enough along. We've definitely seen some progress and improvement from Trey, but we don't really know all of the things KS wants his QBs to have down pat.

I will be SHOCKED if they keep him...I would say there's a less then 5% chance of that happening.

Lance at this point in his development NEEDS to play football, period. Sitting on the bench and basically not playing football almost 3 years is not gonna make him better at football.

Nick Foles won Philly a SB and they chose not to trade him...they then watched him leave and got nothing of real value in return. SF needs picks and cap space. You sell him at the highest point possible and play the guy you invested everything into.

Wasting years of a valuable rookie QB's contract is stupid. Jimmy isn't Brett Favre, he's more Alex Smith.

Agree.

Love Jimmy. I think he's an elite QB (I know NY85 disagrees, no problem! ) But I still agree with NY85 about letting Jimmy go. As much as I love Jimmy as an elite QB, the possibility of Trey becoming another Gold Jacketed player enshrined in a certain place, makes me drool. We lost Joe to age, and we still won a lot of games with Steve Young. I truly believe that if Steve Young had Charles Haley, he'd have won a lot more super bowls than he did. I think it will take Trey about four or five games to get to where Jimmy is - mentally - next year. Then from there on in, he's going to go beyond Jimmy. I'm just plotting the line of improvement between the AZ game and the Texas game and extrapolating that to next year. WOW. I'll Say it backward too! WOW!
If we win a super bowl, we keep Jimmy. Having Jimmy and Trey will be like having Montana and Young.
It's not going to happen, but what if the 49ers won the Super Bowl bc of Jimmy G'. If it's not going to happen (as you put it) then the question is an oxymoron.
He's gonna pull an Eli Manning circa 2007 or 2011 just to polarize the webzone even more.

Agree. If they keep Jimmy, I'm ok with that too. That's a hell of an expensive insurance policy though.

If we win SuperBowl - that too bc Jimmy played at an elite level - we can probably get 2 1st round picks for him. If you get anything close to that value - you absolutely trade him.

Winning SuperBowl will also mean very costly contract extensions for some of our players. Therefore, trading Jimmy and cutting Dee Ford is gonna be moves we have to make to keep the team together and keep contending over the next 4-5 years.

Deebo, Tomlinson, Arden Key, Al-Shaair, Tartt in 2022
Bosa, Aiyuk, Greenlaw 2023

That's a lot of must keep players...and it will be huge if we are paying our QBs 10-12M a year instead of 35M a year.
If by some miracle we win the Super Bowl, trade Jimmy for 2 or 3 first round picks :).

Good list. Cut it in half. There's no way we sign all those guys to long-term deals. Not in today's NFL. Not with the salary cap.

Arden Key loves it here. He also wants to maximize his value while he can and I don't blame the man. I doubt the 49ers keep him, unless it is another 1-2 year deal.

The 49ers have been hitting again and again with players in the late rounds of the NFL draft. I hope the trend continues.
