I couldn't take it. I turned off the TV after the 4th down stop.
My wife went into the bedroom to watch it and said we're football divorced.
I started organizing my desk for taxes.
My nephew texted me "OMG were still in this!!!!" Blocked punt/TD- .05% chance of ever happening.
I turned it back on and watched the last 5 minutes….alone.
I slithered back to my wife for the Gould kick.
This year's Niners, man. Wow.
It was weird, the blocked FG for a TD was epic, but it almost could have been worse than the alternate. The Packers were punting, we were about to get the ball for one last drive and a chance to score a TD to tie or win with a 2pt conversion (which I think in a game like this you must attempt a 2-pt to save your players OT).
Instead we blocked the punt and tied it up putting the ball back in Rodgers hands. To win, that meant we needed to stop him quickly, get the ball back and get into FG position. This may have actually been a taller order than the previous scenario!
Extremely grateful that it all worked out, but it's almost like the chance of WINNING actually went down with the blocked punt. Both scenarios required a long drive by the 49ers, one required getting it into the endzone and a 2pt to win with tons of time. The other required not as far of drive to get to FG range with much less time but required a quick stop of Rodgers instead of needed to finish the drive with a TD. So it boils down to which is easier, stopping Rodgers in one set of downs or maybe two or the extra 30 yards to the endzone and a 2pt?
Love the complexity of this game.
