SF 49ers at LA Rams Pregame Thread - 2021 Season NFC Championship Game

I was listening to "Speak for yourself" with Marcellus Wiley and one of those Acho brothers. They were going back and forth about the Niners vs Rams Sunday and reasons what team would win. Wiley actually said this "the Niners had come back and the Rams figured that they were going to win the West anyway and were already in the playoffs so no need to put fort anymore effort to win". After hearing that and what some of these other talking heads had to say about why the Rams would win, I realized that they could not come up with valid reasons for the Rams to win.

Really wish Jimmy wasn't dealing with the thumb injury. Feels like we're gonna need him to step it up and play a great game from start to finish to pull this out.

Just get the W.

Good news if we win is there will be an extra week of waiting before the last game.

Interesting. All the media pundits are picking the Rams to win. What's concerning (not really) is that most 49er pundits, media and podcasts alike, are saying "we're just happy that the Niners got this far" excuse, which tells me even they don't think the Niners have a chance vs the Rams….

Who cares. Everyone picked the picked the packers last week. Niners still taste the superbowl loss and are hungry and angry. I think it will come to who wants it more, and that's clearly the niners.

The only thing that makes me nervous is obviously we will lose to the Rams and McVay again. Just hopefully not Sunday. I mean, Ohio State finally lost to Michigan again this year.

But there is no doubt who the mentally tougher team is. From our physical brand of football that the Rams typically don't like to everything we've gone through this year, we have the edge there. Rams, I wouldn't say they have a team full of divas although OBJ is and I think Ramsey is. Stafford not so much and probably not Von Miller either. But they're almost like the "Evil Empire" (aka what the Yankees were called) of football, just trying to throw a bunch of money around, trading picks and try to collect Pro Bowlers in hopes it all pays off. They're very easy to root against even if we weren't playing them and weren't rivals.

We kind of had that with the 1994 team in a sense but not for the same reason and not in the same way. Guys like Richard Dent, Rickey Jackson, Charles Mann, Ken Norton Jr., Bart Oates, and yes Deion all wanted that Super Bowl title, or a last/additional one and saw us as one of the best places to get it.

All steaks come to end, but I think we can push this one a bit further. In the 90s, we beat the Rams 17 times in a row lol.

That fear of losing is emotional/psychological and has no bearing on the actual outcome

It is similar to a gambler thinking they are "due" to win

From an objective high level statistics view prior outcomes do not have any impact on future results

If you flip a coin and it has been heads 10 in a row it has no change on thr 50/50 odds of the next flip

The human mind just freaks out about it

I also remember seeing every single starter playing for LA all the way through OT. Why would LA want SF to make the playoffs? Would you want your division rival and the team that's handed you your ass 5 times in a row at that point in the playoffs?

How about McVay running onto the field celebrating a TD. f**k that trash, they wanted to win that game as much as anyone. Tossing fake punts and s**t.

Good thing our players don't think like that...bunch of soft candy asses! I hope it's true because that just shows how weak those Rams are.

Even the most optimistic 49ers fan had this team left for dead after a 4 game losing streak, if not then, they did after sitting at 3-5 when they got embarrassed by the Cardinals backups at home, or getting swept by a bad Seahawks team, or Tennessee, or down 17-0 in a win and youre in game. Point is, despite so many scenarios where damn near any team would've died. This team over came it to not only make the playoffs, but at the very least, one of the four last teams still standing. Win or lose, this was a good season and we should be proud of the team we root for. That doesn't mean there's not a belief that the 49ers have a great chance to continue their dominance over the Rams

I'll take that wait for sure lol. Only one game then which is already scheduled.

This is what happens when suddenly about half way thru season, it becomes apparent that we have not 4 just starters on DL but 8, maybe 9. Several may be rotational DLs but they stlll are starters, and as we saw when Nick was out for last half of one game with concussion, the remaining guys just kept bringing the heat.

It isn't just the best DL in the league, it's the deepest. And when you see fresh guys in there, by halftime the opposing OLs start slowing down, running out of gas. Our DL looks like it is still first qtr.,,and THAT is a massive advantage. Yes, with Arik moving inside , Ebuk's speed on the outside, Key's brute strength up the middle, DJJones essential all pro season, Omenihu coming thru, Givens, Street, Hurst….and on top of that , Nick…it should be no surprise that our DL is best in the league.

kudos to Coach K and of course , Demeco, also…because our guys are incredibly well coached. This is exactly why Kyle/JL have been drafting DLs high most every yr….and Kinlaw isn't even on the field. Rams, DAL, and GB all have found out what a world class DL means at playoff time.

Top that off with Fred, Dre, and Azeez, and you have the best front 7 anywhere, hands down.

STs, a problem a good part of the yr, suddenly win the game for us in Tundra land GB , where our D kept AR to 1 completion in 2nd half. Our QB's torn thumb ligament + chip bone fracture + sprained shoulder has hurt our O, but Deebo, Elijah, Kittle, au Jus, Aiyuk, Jauan, and #71 have made up for JG's injuries.

As we saw in GB we have 22 guys working as a unit, O, D, and STs, are all working together….as 1 unit…and that is how for the first time ever, we won 3 consecutive road games against 12-5 teams in end of season//playoffs
There is more pressure on the Rams to win since they have gone all in with high priced free agents. They are trying to get that 6 game monkey off their backs. The Niners are playing with house money which should allow them to be play loose. Not many expected them to get this far especially after the 4 game losing streak in mid season. If the game stays close I look for the Rams to choke. If they get off to a big start , I'm not counting on them to fold again like they did last time.

I didn't. I knew the Niners just had to get into the playoffs and get hot. With 7 teams from each conference making the playoffs, I knew it would be easier than in years past.
We need to continue to play more starters in ST. I am not expecting to win in ST against the Rams, because they have an excellent unit. We cannot lose in ST like in week 18.

It affected their seeding though. They went from like 2 to 4 and it cost them a home game in the 2nd round.

Plus, there's no love lost between these players. I doubt they were just like "meh, who cares if we've been asked all week about not beating the 9ers for years, what's one more loss?"
