SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at LOS ANGELES RAMS - 2021 Season NFC Championship Game

We had plenty of chances to win this game and if any of the following happen there's a chance we're in the super bowl:

-Tartt makes the int
-The guards don't both pull and wipe each other out on the 2nd and 1 run to Mitchell at midfield
-Better call/execution on the 3rd and 2 run to Juice

One thing I noticed being at the game is the crowd was MUCH louder when the Rams were on defense. Seemed to me like fans were split about 50/50, but when the Rams were on defense the crowd noise was deafening.

Louder than I've ever heard at Levi's and on par with only the most raucous moments I've experienced at the stick. Anyone else notice this? It was weird 🤷🏼‍♂️

Shanahan and McVay both struggles to close out and finished games. Whoever can finish wins the game today. They both have great weapons and teams on the field. It's more of a chess match between them.

This exactly what happened yesterday. McVay finished Kyle didn't.
I am physically and mentally sick over losing the NFC game to the Rams, but…yesterday, the better team won. When we played them for the last game of the season…that day we were the better team. NFL…not for long, and as we all know, anything can happen on any Sunday. But the better team won Sunday. Why?

1. Rams DL just flat out beat our OL to a pulp….15 pressures on JG on 30 drop backs…just means our OL is broken. Sure big Trent was injured and that was no insignificant injury. It hurt us badly.. However, the R side of the OL was not good enough to play in a NFC title game. They got run over , under around and through.

ANSWER: Need TWO (2) starting OLs, RG and RT (plus a C for the pipeline)

2. DL played great but they are not built for 45 minutes of playing time. No question they all were beat long before 4th and some of 3rd qtr was over. Nonetheless, they were terrific.
CBs… it was obvious we need TWO (2) starter CBs. Of course 1 would be good, but we need 2. One FA, one draft, and no moneyballers. LBs played great and Ss did okay…we could use an additional S also.

3. JG…Jimmy gutted it out ,played with chip fractured thumb, torn ligament of thumb and sprained shoulder. So he wasn't healthy, but nonetheless, we need a QB who can read the D, can throw accurately, have the entire team behind him, and throw a minimum of INTs. D carried us previous 2 games, or probably 3 games. But we need a QB, who can do the above and then carry the team if the D runs into trouble like yesterday. Don't think Jimmy can do all that, but the man has guts, is a fantastic TEAM player and has handled an awkward situation at QB with aplomb. He is a special type of person and a truly good guy. Unfortunately we need to do better at QB, as we have seen at Cincy, KC, Buffalo, and yesterday, at Rams…plus there are several others.
Jimmy has been great for us, esp with his W/L record. Still , we need to do better.

If kyle had adjusted his game to JG's strengths, instead of vice versa…would Jimmy have been the one to lead us to 2 SB Wins? IDK, maybe…but probably not. And there was the lingering issue of Jimmy's injuries.

4. Coach Kyle…do i want him as HC? Absolutely. Could he have done some things better? Sure, and the item above is one of them. That aside, kyle is a genius at playcalling , but at times, that seems to fall off…or be less than desirable. It is hard to be perfect all the time. He and JL have built a marvelous team from the utter dregs of NFL. Still, it isn't quite enough. We desperately need a R side of the OL, both RG and RT, plus a C in the pipeline. Of course, that involves JL also, but between them, we need more talent. We are , however, close.

Additionally our fantastic front 7 needs help. Two starter CBs and probably a S. We all hope for Ambry to be the one but still, CBs get injured and two starter CBs is not over-asking. As for our new QB, we all hope and pray Trey is the guy. But that means he learn to read Ds, get the ball out a lot faster, be able to throw darts , and ultimately to be able to carry the team on his back if the D goes into a funk or is injured. He is a remarkable talent, is mobile as anyone could ask, but can he carry the team? A daunting task, but accuracy, 3rd down conversions, carrying the team, reading the Ds, avoiding INTs are going to be much more important than his mobility.
The Rams shutdown our run game completely, Kupp was going crazy and yet we had a 10 point lead and the ball late in the 3rd quarter. Rams are not a better team than us. They beat us by 3 points with us having no run game and them having a much better QB. Yes I understand their receivers dropped a pair of TD's. Also I hate the credit McVey is getting. The guy wasted all of his timeouts in the 2nd half just for the fun of it.

Not to mention we did not have Jason Verrett, Dee Ford, Mostert, Mike McGlinchey, Dre Greenlaw (for most of the game), a hobbled Trent Williams and so on....and they barely beat us????? Why do people keep mentioning how they shut down our run game? Of course they did but we shut theirs down as well and they got less yards per carry than we did. Did people miss that? Also we had more passing yards per play as well as more yards per play in general.

Good for the Rams to finally beat an injured team like they beat Arizona and a severely injured TB team Not much to brag about especially after getting Von Miller and OBJ.

I was at the game. Definitely more 49er fans there but when the Rams were on Defense, it was deafening. I am of the firm belief that they were pumping in crowd noise from the speakers.

Not saying that's why we lost, merely an observation.

No doubt they were pumping noise in, but that's the advantage you get when you're the higher seed

It's not fair but the solution is to win the West and force the game in Levis North as opposed to Levis South.

You know I watched the OBJ and Deeb scene again. A) love the passion of Deeb leaving his feelings out there and B) I have a new respect for OBJ. He knows the talent in Deeb and I'm sure whispered to him soon you will be rewarded and soon you will go all the way.

I didn't like how he tried to steal the spotlight from the players after LSU won the national title. But I do respect the sportsmanship here.
