Is there a stat that shows how many 2nd and long the offense was forced into? That to me was killer. It seemed we lost every 1st down.
The Rams were the more physical team. You could see that they were intentionally being physical. That big hit on Deebo was just one example and he took other hits as well. I don't think the 49ers players were expecting that level of physicality from the Rams.

Also, so many weird OL snapping the ball issues. They were out of sync several times. Play clock was down to 0 and timing was off. Not sure what happened. It's like they were unprepared

Good take. This may be tin foil hat territory but I honestly feel like maybe they were piping in crowd noise. I mean we were there week 18 and it wasn't nearly so loud. The whole take away was how 49er fans took over the stadium. In this game lots of red in the stands but boy when we had the ball it was LOUD. After week 18 Deebo even said he felt the Rams "had to pump noise" cuz they didn't have the fans. Colts were accused of this back in the day.

Definitely agree...here's what I found from our drives regarding 2nd to go:

10 yards - punt
7 yards - first down
9 yards - punt
8 yards - first down
12 yards - touchdown play
8 yards - first down
4 yards - first down
10 yards - field goal on 3rd down to end half
10 yards - first down
1 yard - first down
9 yards - punt
9 yards - first down
11 yards - first down
10 yards - first down
11 yards - touchdown play
4th Quarter
10 yards - first down
1 yard - punt; crucial possession lost
15 yards - after delay penalty; punt
10 yards - intercepted on 3rd down game over

Averages out to 2nd and 8.68 yards with a gain of 1.32 yards on first down. Another stat to lose the game starting in the hole almost every set of downs.

Thanks for that. This team was built to succeed on first down. They failed in this game.

No problem...made an edit after missing the 4th and 2 punt possession but it didn't change much overall.

Maybe, but then after being shamed so much, and after tickets were restricted for a couple of days, it would make sense for more Rams fans to show up.
It's Tuesday, and i want be clear that i'm not mad that we didn't win.

I'm proud that we made it this far, but i still sit here bummed that we didn't get there.

Playoffs were so much fun to watch, i wasn't ready for our season to be over yet.

I'm happy but still bummed. hard to describe the feeling lol.

That is absolutely horrendous. I don't even know how we scored 17 points from this. That's a ton to overcome in constant predictable passing situations (our weakness). Hence the 15 pressures on only 30 attempts.

PS: You should do one for the Rams now.

The Niners have relied on the draft to find star players and then filled in the rest with free agents and late round picks. Trent and Jimmy are the two exceptions.

Other than Kupp and Donald (who I believe was a Jeff Fisher pick) the Rams got most of their best players through trades or free agent signings (Von, Stafford, Ramsey, Whitworth, Beckham, A'Shawn Robinson and Floyd). Robert Woods was also a free agent signing although he was injured.

Not trying to take credit away from the Rams, at the end of the day It doesn't really matter how a team decides to build, it just reflects a difference in philosophy.

The real reason however, I believe we lost this game is the Rams have been better in the draft with finding quality players in the mid to late rounds. Notebloom (T) was a 3rd rounder, Gaines was a 4th, Nick Scott (the guy who laid out Deebo) went in the 7th, Troy Reeder went undrafted, and Brian Allen who was among the better centers in football this year was a 4th round pick. These guys may not be super stars, but at least they see the field, unlike Banks and Sermon.

The Rams have been good in the draft and that's the difference IMO. With fewer picks and players needing to be paid, Shanahan/Lynch have little room for error now.

I was ready to crown this as the greatest post in the history of the WZ. Then I actually read the post. I will keep searching.

We lost because we couldnt get off the field on 3rd downs. s**t play calling in the 4th, and the dropped pick.
