And so is this.

That is absolutely horrendous. I don't even know how we scored 17 points from this. That's a ton to overcome in constant predictable passing situations (our weakness). Hence the 15 pressures on only 30 attempts.

PS: You should do one for the Rams now.

Rams:
7 yards - punt
7 yards - first down
8 yards - first down
8 yards to goal - interception on 3rd down
10 yards - first down
6 yards - first down
4 yards - first down
10 yards - first down
10 yards - first down
13 yards - first down
14 yards - touchdown on 3rd and 13
9 yards - first down
1 yard - first down
10 yards - first down
10 yards - missed field goal on 4th down
12 yards - first down
1 yard - turnover on downs devastating for them; we had Kittle TD right after this but then failed to do anything on offense rest of game.
8 yards - first down
1 yard - touchdown on 3rd down
4th Quarter
10 yards - first down; 30 yard pass to OBJ plus 15 penalty yards
10 yards - first down
10 yards - field goal
7 yards - first down
9 yards - first down
11 yards - field goal on 4th down
Not going to count the kneel downs to end game

Averages out to 2nd and 8.24 yards with a gain of 1.76 yards on first down. Not much better than us TBH, their main difference was converting many more 3rd downs. They had 6 more 2nd downs than we did.

So this. I kind of felt like during the game Jimmy was masking Kyle's horrendous first down calls and overcoming a ton of 2nd and longs and somehow got 17 points on the board. Then the bottom dropped out in the 4Q.

original post was perfect, now come the excuses about coaching and Jimmy

Play calling and Jimmy's execution follow the s**t show we had from the oline yesterday. The O is setup to run the ball and then play action, we all know this. Could not run the ball yesterday so play action was pretty much dead. You can cry all you want about Jimmy, but his passer rating up to the 4th qtr was over a 100 I believe. Then the line from the center to the rt completely collapsed. They stood there like turnstiles, arms out guarding air but letting free rushers left and right. I agree Jimmy is not a top 10 but he's alot better than this crowd gives him credit for and unless we address the oline next year, Trey is going to be running for his life and his development will be stalled at best.

My #1 fear...developing poor habits right away.

I disagree. If you look around the league you'll notice that every teams offensive line is suspect. There's not enough good lineman in the NFL right now.

Trey will have his lumps but his OL will not be an excuse compared to what every other QB has to deal with.

I'll earmark this. LOL

We stomached bad habits for years and pointed elsewhere week after week. What's one more year of doing the same? Can't possibly be any worse.

The Niners have relied on the draft to find star players and then filled in the rest with free agents and late round picks. Trent and Jimmy are the two exceptions.

Other than Kupp and Donald (who I believe was a Jeff Fisher pick) the Rams got most of their best players through trades or free agent signings (Von, Stafford, Ramsey, Whitworth, Beckham, A'Shawn Robinson and Floyd). Robert Woods was also a free agent signing although he was injured.

Not trying to take credit away from the Rams, at the end of the day It doesn't really matter how a team decides to build, it just reflects a difference in philosophy.

The real reason however, I believe we lost this game is the Rams have been better in the draft with finding quality players in the mid to late rounds. Notebloom (T) was a 3rd rounder, Gaines was a 4th, Nick Scott (the guy who laid out Deebo) went in the 7th, Troy Reeder went undrafted, and Brian Allen who was among the better centers in football this year was a 4th round pick. These guys may not be super stars, but at least they see the field, unlike Banks and Sermon.

The Rams have been good in the draft and that's the difference IMO. With fewer picks and players needing to be paid, Shanahan/Lynch have little room for error now.

You should post this in the John Lynch or Team Needs thread. Excellent post. Love talking team building strategy.

Kyle's held Jimmy back,...imagine that.

The Niners have been just as good or better at finding late round talent and signing UFA. It's the ist round where they've had most of their misses. The biggest difference is the Rams willingness to give uo 1st round picks to acquire proven talent.

That and the QB was better. That was the difference in the game. Aiyuk was open as much as Kupp and Beckham were.
The talent on this team is excellent. There needs to more of a balance run vs. pass as this team relied too heavily on the run. There also needs to be more variety in the passing game rather than primarily 10 yards middle of the field attack.

Yeah pretty much. But hey every coach needs a qb to save their ass.

Andy Reid did for sure.
We lost because we couldn't run the ball. It was a 2nd and 2 and our vaunted running game couldn't even get 2 yards. That's why the football gods knocked that INT from Quaski's hands. We didn't deserve to win after not getting 2 yards.
