Why are people saying this is a Lance hire?

Scangs and Kyle are the ones worried about Trey. Lynn is a run game guy. He's essentially replacing McDaniel as run game coordinator while Kyle is passing game coordinator. With his HC experience he can help Kyle make game strategy decisions better. All the HC who call plays end up sucking at clock management because it's too much to manage at once.

My thoughts on the Hiring of Anthony Lynn (which I really Like) and the possible implications from it.

As always love any and all support!

Thanks, Shifty - would love to get Taylor, he'd be nice to have behind Trey.

Well if we read the tea leaves a bit... We're bringing in Pep Hamilton. He was the QB coach for the Texans and is likely to be looking for work after they hire their next coach. He was the qb coach who made herbert the ROY

Pep would be interesting as OC. I wasn't a huge fan of him when he was OC in Indy but if he's not calling the plays and just helping design gameplans and working with the QB's, assisting Kyle, Lynn and Scangarello, he'd be a very valuable addition.

These are the rankings of the Chargers on the ground with Lynn.

2017--99.7 (#24)
2018--110.1 (#18)
2019--90.8 (#28)
2020--111.5 (#18)

Now yards per run.

2017--3.8 (#26)
2018--4.5 (#12)
2019--4 (#23)
2020--3.8 (#30)

Unimpressive for a running game guru

You should use DVOA.

2017-- (#21)
2018--(#4)
2019--(#22)
2020--(#31)
Lynn, 52, went 33-31 in four seasons with the Chargers, though he won 12 of 32 games since 2019.

L.A. had serious clock management issues under his watch last season and blew leads of at least 16 points in four consecutive games, an NFL record.

But the Chargers also had significant injury problems on defense — All-Pro safety Derwin James has played five games the past two years — and Lynn oversaw the development of Offensive Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert.

Lynn said he learned valuable lessons coaching Herbert that will help him next time he has a rookie quarterback

"You just can't put too much on his plate. You got to let him play," Lynn said. "And we got to a point to where we were helping him call plays throughout the game. Letting him see the defense, we're calling the play. We feel like doing it at the line of scrimmage helped him a little bit. That's what he was used to doing at Oregon anyway."

That would be contingent on Mike getting the HC gig but I love this idea!
I like this hire
and if he can help KS on situational football and clock management… 👌

Aside from thinking Tyrod Taylor was better than Justin Herbert, he seems like a good coach.

This is the worry for me.

I think he wanted Herbert to sit just like Trey for a year, but when a guy has talent like that it's legitimate to question if sitting him is the right move.
Love this hiring, assuming it goes ahead. Mutual benefit here, Lynn will get another chance at a HC position and if he learns from Shanahan he will be a success.
Great hire, moving in the right direction so far.

I do think this increases the odds that Tyrod Taylor comes in as the 49ers backup QB for next season.

This.

My exact thought. Tyrod is someone I'd feel comfortable with filling in. Could absolutely starts on some teams
