Is this his first time as a position coach?
Shanny ain't worried about getting poached. He's preparing the next batch to be poached in a couple of years.

Soon he'll be daddy to the whole ****ING league

Great move this guy is a national champion and did good things in the pros too. Of course the Shanny ties are there he was Papa Shanny's QB. Awesome!

What did he do as a pro? Coaching wise.

the same dudes who think we can survive multiple coaching losses one after another an not suffer performance downgrades are the probably the same dudes who think our team is not more injured than most of the league, and "its just the nfl" "its a rough sport", "this amount of injuries is normal". it all leads back to the same mental block....
denial, denial, denial.

theres this recurring theme of trying to spin losing a ton of important assistants as a somehow good thing. "well that shows shanahan grows a great staff" is their motto. cool thats great. good for him. but thats not the subject, what does that have to do with the fact that that "great staff" is now gone? they think anyone who comes into this building will just automatically be great all over again because well "shanahan". i think some may not realize the coaching staff is a team as well. kyle cant do it all on his own, hes need talented intelligent guys to have their own ideas an make their own good calls. not just anyone he brings in can do that successfully. our success is due to his assistants as well, an how many are now HC's, OCs, DCs an coaches on other teams? if this keeps happening every offseason the other shoe is gonna drop eventually. that could even be this year. look at our losses already. do we currently have a ST coordinator even? s**t almost anyone should be an upgrade over hightower so we should be ok there.

i think the anthony lynn hire is great an im excited for that one. could possibly be an upgrade. but thats all possibilities right now. its ok to admit wev suffered some losses or made some mistakes. theres nothing wrong with being critical of something not favorable happening to our team. but to just try to shine s**t an spin one thing into something it is not is the same problem as our injury problem deniers...

denial, denial, denial.

Man how did those LA Rams survive constantly getting poached the past couple years? How about hose Patriots for decades. Andy Reid. Bill Walsh etc Crazy man.

Coaching staffs aren't stagnate...if you are good at your job you will get promoted. Kyle and other coaches have shown that developing coaches is just as important as developing players.

I'm sure you thought Ryans was gonna stink all the same. I'm sure you thought Saleh was was just as green was gonna stink too. Facts are whether you want to admit it or not, our HC is damn good at developing coaches. If I'm a young coach I'm dying to be on Kyle's team...dude get's coaches paid.

There is some element of truth I think in both sides of this argument. We lost every single main position coach and or coordinator except the oline coach on offense. That's tough.

With that said there was a similar level of turnover on the defense last season especially once Johnny Holland had to take a break. The defense started slow then found it's grove. The difference was it was a brand new playcaller and there were also some outside hires into main roles on the defense.
On offense we will retain the main playcaller and it looks like many of the positional coaches are guys who have been on the staff and will come out of the film room as their main roles and onto the field. Kyle is a smart guy who seems to be able to surround himself with smart like-minded level people. There may be some adjustments but I feel confident that it will not be that dire. Kyle is the architect of this scheme and you have guys like Forester and Lynn that have been in the league for a long time. As long as we stay successful this will always be a poaching target around the league. The way you stay out in front of it is make good entry level coaching decisions and have guys ready to step up when opportunity arises. New England has mastered this. I'll give Kyle his chance to do the same.

Great discussion and points fellas!!!

Yup. Although it was rough going for quite a while. Fortunately, Ryan was able to keep the exact same scheme and continuity and that helped him get over some early struggles too.

I think some are overstating the constant departures of Kyle's staff. That's how top businesses and organizations function and thrive. It's much better to train and develop talent who then leave to advance their careers, than to not develop them and have them stay.

It's a natural cycle. If we train and develop they will leave. If we don't develop then unfortunately they will stay. The latter is how organizations get left behind.

True but usually the CEO doesn't have to train everybody down to the mail room staff. Ha
Our staff must be amazing to get so many opportunities elsewhere. If Kyle knows how to consistently pick the right guys to make a staff this good, I suppose we should give him the benefit of the doubt that the quality control and other assistants are guys he saw potential into to become high caliber coaches down the road.

Yes but you are assuming Kyle hasn't developed a culture of growth. That would mean that Mike McDaniel wasn't developing those under him along the way or that Saleh wasn't involved with the growth of Demeco Ryans. Instead, Kyle is the only resource for training and development. If that was the case then it would not be sustainable.

Personally, I believe the structure is in place for both development and recruitment that can not only survive turnover but thrive in it.

Pro bowl. Very technical qb
Pretty stoked about this hire...Trey will have a real QB tutoring him. Man, Shanahan has a ton of connections, doesn't he. Awesome. I'll bet BG's pretty stoked getting this job. The chance to coach up a young talent like Lance doesn't come along very often. For naysayers out there, this'll be Griese's first coaching job. His experience as an NFL analyst will aid him tremendously. Also heard in Lynch's address yesterday they've hired or are in the process of hiring just about all the open positions. Shanahan's coaching tree continues to grow...quite a complement to our main man.
On yahoo, the headline said "MNF Analyst leaving to take job with 49ers: Report."

When I saw this, I thought "holy crap we got Steve Young."

Still good hire but got teased a little.

Don't underestimate Griese's time with Kyle in Tampa either. The three most direct coaching influences for Kyle are: his Dad, Gary Kubiak, and Jon Gruden. Brian Griese played for both the first and the last coach on that list.
The griese hire seems risky because he's never coached before. Now its march and he has 2 months to get a plan together for trey. Needs to develop 8? 10? 12? weeks of micro cycle in 2 months. Whats his focus gonna be? Does he get to see scanges plans from last year?
Whats going on with st? This is also a big hole to fill.
