Cregg, 48, joins the 49ers after spending three seasons (2018-20) as the offensive line coach at Louisiana State University.

Prior to his time at LSU, Cregg spent four years in the NFL as an assistant offensive line coach with the Los Angeles Chargers (2017) and Denver Broncos (2014-16). From 2010-13, Cregg was the offensive line coach at the University of Southern California after one season (2009) as offensive line coach at the University of Tennessee. He first entered the NFL coaching ranks as an assistant offensive line coach for the Oakland Raiders for two seasons (2007-08). Prior to his time in Oakland, he served as a defensive line coach at the University of Idaho (2004-06) and Colgate University (2000-03). He began his coaching career as a defensive graduate assistant at Colorado State University (1997-99).

this gives me some hope to our Oline.

Foerster was also an OC in the NFL previously so he should be fine in a role where he won't be asked to call any plays but handle a lot of the run game stuff along with Lynn.

He looks like a very talented OLine coach. Hope ShanaLynch found thier Bobb Mckittrick 2.0.
Good blend of youth and experience in our revamped coaching staff. Let's hope for some noticeable positive changes next season.

McDaniel didn't call plays either, which is why I have no issues with Foerster, McDaniel helped with the game plan, I expect it to be a group effort between Kyle, Lynn, Foerster, & Slowik(pass wise)

If Lynn stays for 2yrs, and then gets a HC gig, we get 2 3rd's, same if DeMeco leaves next year. Also if Carthon gets a GM job. But hope we can hold onto our coaches for however long as possible.
ok, I'll bite. Why would lynn not be the oc/run game coordinator? He's senior, been an OC, been an hc. Foerster doesn't really seem to be in that space right now. More like trying to get through the day without blowing up his career.

Probably because Foerster has been in our building for the last 3 years and has a better grasp on the offense and Kyle's run game right now than Lynn does.

Foerster is the new run game coordinator? Not expecting much innovation from him.

Pretty much what I anticipated. A coach-up staff and Lynn being a position coach and AHC like Embree. But that's quite a fall from HC. He was never going to be a coordinator AND position coach, IMHO.

I didn't see Foerster becoming the run game coordinator though but it makes sense in Kyle's 'current' run scheme today.

This. What Lynn was exposed to under Mike isn't what Kyle is running today which is the most dynamic and diverse running game on the planet.

Bettcher was a Senior Defensive assistant. He was basically DeMeco's right hand man in game planning and I read somewhere he had a big part in the blitz packages and designs. I was hoping we would be able to keep Betcher around for more year or
would have gotten another veteran coach to replace him. I have a feeling Nick Sorensen will be DeMeco's new right hand man/defensive assistant. I think he will have a bigger role than his title would
indicate. He has a solid resume and is overqualified to be just a defensive assistant IMO, but I could be wrong.

Yeah it's interesting with all the internal promotions (just about everybody), Nick's title stayed the same.
I like the James Cregg hire and Schneider is a clear
improvement over Hightower if he has "personal" stuff in order

I love researching coaching staffs around the league in both college and the pros. It helps familiarize me with a lot of the assistant coaches out there, like the up and comers. The one constant I've learned about is on most teams the offensive line coach is the defacto running game coordinator even if it's not in his title. Since Forester was here the last few years coaching all the blocking assignments in the game plans, he has a good understanding of the running schemes we've been running so the bump in title makes sense. With that said I have no doubt Lynn wasn't just brought here to coach running backs, he'll be involved in the game planning as well.
