Offseason strategy - how would you play it?

Here's what you do. Trey Lance has to bust he'll take us to one Super Bowl but we won't score any points and we will lose. Trade him for pennies on the dollar and all our first rounders for years to get Dak Prescott in his 30s. We then give up all remaining picks for some veteran stars a pass rusher and receiver. No 1st round picks for seven years. Wait for the NFL to put the Super Bowl in our home stadium again. Come up with some super annoying chant from our PA guy. And after we win the SB with Prescott, Shanny and Bosa both say they are thinking about retiring. This is how it's done nowadays.

When i pray at night i'm thankful that you arent near the front office.

lol at Dak. If he can't get out of the Wild Card round with that roster not sure why you think he could win here.

Yes this is another part of the plan. Get a bunch of ppl saying Dak is a loser cuz he couldn't win in Detroit, I mean Dallas. But on our team he'd win the SB first year. We also need a white guy WR who is completely unguardable from Eastern Washington draft someone like that.
Get Brady and keep sitting lance until Brady declines or reretires.

Sign bosa and deebo.

Sadly we will probably lose some backup dlinemen because they will want some more cash.

Maybe trade Warner to free up the cash and recoup draft picks. He's good but the drop to al shaeer and greenlaw isn't that much. The cash is worth more.

Everything else will fall into place.

It was good at first with sign Bosa and Deebo. Then I read the words "trade Warner".

You owe me a new monitor.

It depends how much the 49er UFAs want. I would prioritize Tomlinson and DJ Jones. Guys like Key, Tartt, KWaun are nice-to-haves. I'd bring Mostert and Verrett back since they can't possibly be asking for much, perhaps Tartt also won't be asking for much. If there's money to splurge in free agency (doubtful), I'd use it on fixing the OL. Draft defense since I don't think a rookie OL would help in 2022.

edit: Draft however the board falls. I think going for quantity is a good thing with so many players earning/deserving top market contracts (Deebo, Bosa, Warner, Kittle, Trent). Need cheap depth.

All of that
I think people are undervaluing Arden Key. IMO, he's right up there as a must resign along with Jones and Tomlinson. 6.5 sacks in a part time role. The guy is still young and although most of his production came from the inside beating guards this year, who's to say in year 2 under Kocurek that he doesn't further develop his game as an edge rusher? He easily could take that next step and be our book end of the future to Bosa.
Talk the Packers into keeping Rodgers and Adams. Then trade for a CB they won't be able to afford that's coming off an injury.

I think people undervalue him because he's part of a platoon of rushers. Meanwhile, Tomlinson is a starting Guard, while D.J. Jones is a 1st/2nd down run-stopper.
But agreed... I want him back if it's the right price.
The choice fairly quickly will be to either build your team around a handful of the highest paid players at their positions ever and struggle to build cheap FA or homegrown rookies around them, or, trade the "you know who" guys before their 100M deals and continually restock with the draft capital.
This whole '2 good seasons and reset the market' for some players is getting unsustainable.
A). Resign the essentials - Bosa, DeeBo, Tomlinson, KWilliams

B). Get best trade value for JG - whatever it is or whoever with I don't care

C). Find a young C/G free agent to fill those roles as necessary - Mack isn't getting younger and the right side of the OL need help

D). Draft the best OLine or DBacks that are available

F). Sign best FA quarterback like Tyrod Taylor or Brisset

G). As soon as allowed - poach every worthwhile player of need off of every teams practice squad. There should be some very good players there that we can steal.
  1. Trade Jimmy
  2. Resign Deebo and Bosa
  3. Resign Laken
  4. Resign Verrett to a non guaranteed deal. Low risk high reward
  5. Sign cheap DE that we can turn into the next Key or Hyder
  6. Draft CB, C, Edge, Safety, OL
  7. Sign veteran QB

I'm not too quick moving away from Tartt, especially if they're going to infuse younger CBs. Gonna need another year of Tartt and Ward veteran leadership.

Agreed. Middle tier safeties never get what they expect on the open market. Tartt could be brought back on a very manageable deal - unless I'm underestimating how other GMs view him.

Let's hope other GM's remember him for his dropped Int and Injury Issues. We should be able to re-sign him on the cheap then.
I see the off season as a kind of feed back loop for Niners this year

Niner FAs
Which of their own FAs do they sign and how do they prioritize them. They already have an idea who they can sign

Other FAs
What holes do we need to fill from our FAs, where can we improve. They know who they want but will they get better offers, be kept by current team

Draft
What happened in FA? May need to fill a hole but hope to bring in young players on both sides of the ball.
