The Bucs just did the samething with Brady. Got Gronk and AB and won. And if Brady wasn't retiring they'd still be in contention next year. Just like the Rams will be in contention the next few years. Hard to say our model is better when it hasn't produced us a SB. Pats are the only dynasty over the last 20 years. Packers have been in contention for 10 years with nothing to show. I'd rather have a super bowl after 10 years. To me there is no set way. Do what you have to do to get 6.
The Seahawks had a loaded roster and had Russell Wilson and then had him signed long-term. They fell back to earth. They've been a playoff team for awhile, but I don't think they've been a legit contender for awhile. It's ultimately just too hard to be among the top 4 teams if you don't draft well. I presume the Rams will fall off from being THE favorites after next year.
Agree. You have to draft well for long term success. Drafting well, involves a lot of factors - number one is that you have to have a good coach that can develop the players he drafts. The fact that the Rams have had to trade their high round draft picks for proven veterans, is a sign to me, that they are unable to either find the talent they need, or unable to develop the young talent they got. That's a recipe for long term disaster. And I mean *long term.* Once a team starts losing, they will jet zone their coach and start a coaching carousel that might not end until the ownership hits some luck and basically lucks into a good coach that turns the seasons around.
I've seen that personally with George Seifert. He won two super bowls, one by basically keeping the Bill Walsh personnel together for another year, and his second super bowl was the Rams model. Then a decade of mediocrity and cap hell followed by bad coach after bad coach until Harbaugh finally stabilized the franchise for a bit until they fell and then Jed lucks into the ShanaLynch regime and finally we have some stability and some prospects for long term success at (possibly) the dynasty level.
Stick with the ShanaLynch process model, it's gotten them to the Super bowl and the NFC CG game two out of three years that this model has been implemented. If not for injuries to Trent Williams and possibly Mike McGlinchy, we'd be appearing against Cinci in the 2021 super bowl and probably would have beat Cinci, if Trent and McGlinchy was able to stay healthy for the whole of 2021.
