No, I'm not JD, just got around to finally looking at the film today (couldn't really bear to any sooner) and thought we at least need a discussion thread for it.

I'm not nearly as skilled nor intelligent enough to break down what I see in detail, but I have some general observations (particularly on the last two drives).

On the 2nd to last possession, which was after the Rams had tied the game:

1st and 10: They had Deebo motion like it was a screen, got a lot of attention and Jimmy prob could have hit one of the two WRs at the top of the screen for an easy 1st down:

Jimmy ends up checking it down to Kittle while getting hit by AD and the pass falls incomplete.

2nd and 10: Delay of game despite having two timeouts in hand. Guess the timeout is more valuable than the 5 yards at this point.

2nd and 15: Nobody was really open. Probably could have hit Deebo as a checkdown late, but Jimmy never got there.

3rd and 15: Looks like some miscommunication here. The ball is snapped while Brunskill is still looking back for Jimmy to tell him to alert Mack. He gets beat badly and the play is dead from the start.

This series was pretty bad from a time management standpoint. On 2nd and 10, you've got guys getting set with under 10 seconds on a play that has a motion back across the formation. On 3rd and 15, the play clock is at 1 by the time everyone is set out of the huddle.

Final possession:

1st and 10: Von beats Compton badly, Jimmy gets the ball out but they had a well timed stunt and the ball is batted down.

2nd and 10: CB and safety are baiting Jimmy into throwing to the WR at the bottom of the screen. Jimmy prob should have checked it down here. He had Kittle wide open in the flat with a ton of room to run and Hasty open as well. For some reason he decides to look left where both options are well covered.

3rd and 13: Literally nobody open before the desperation throw.

How'd you get the all22? Hook me up bro.
Preciate it. It still hurts man and can't wait til the season starts but seen a handful of plays where guys were wide open and have been missed.. hope to see more breakdowns throughout the game

Ohh. I have GamePass but it hurts to use that interface.

Actually Jto Sullivan talked about it in a recent video he did how he prefers the timeout to the 5 yards because that timeout theoretically should give the team a couple of more plays near the end of the game. I think the idea works if you have a guy that is capable of converting when the offense is behind the chains.
Collective team fails that cost us every L this year, reared its ugly head again in this big game.

But it's still super encouraging like every game save for one, we were right there in it until the end. And just one less penalty, one less INT, one less poor play call, one less pass protection fail, etc...we win. Simple as that.

What bothers me the most going forward is definitely the clock management on the next to last drive.

I absolutely hate it as well, but it was my only option. I can clip and paste together one long video of the coaches film, but it would probably take a while and I would assume JD already has one.
yeah yeah we know JG sucks

No, don't do that. No need.

Well hurry up and watch the two plays that I screenshotted so I can see if I am dumb or if you agree with me.
Jimmy G missed open WRs all game. Especially Aiyuk. Sure there were times the rush was in his face, but he's one of the main reasons we lost. Click on this PFF thread. It shows several mistakes Jimmy made.

Again, there were some nice throws and reads (Aiyuk down the sideline, Kittle in the endzone) but there were more of these plays and it overshadowed the good ones <a href="

Agree. If Verett, McGlinchy, and even maybe if Mostert didn't go down, maybe we'd have #6. I know Trent Williams was playing on one leg, and it kind of showed in the pass protection in the NFCCG. This team is so close to that Lombardi, it just needs some depth to overcome some injuries - I hope we get lucky and no starters go down in 2022. If the front office can just give Kyle and Trey enough depth that they can match up evenly talent-wise against every NFL team, I think Kyle's coaching can make a significant difference and lead us to that Lombardi. As it is, the 49ers lose a ton of talent to injuries every year, and if the front office can just directly confront that and solve it, I think playoffs (and even a super bowl appearance) are possibly in the cards every year.
Honestly I just think that every play is designed to go to a particular guy regardless of anyone else being open. I think qb's will go to that guy if it's there and only go elsewhere if the primary read isn't. (Pretty sure I just totally stated the obvious.....my bad)
