I think the blocking angles at Center is different that out wide at the Tackle spots. You need arm length and foot quickness at the tackle spots to push speed rushers past the QB (for example), At the center position, the pass rushers are coming more at you than away from you. So arm length isn't a handicap, in a sense. I like Poe being very strong - rep 34 on the bench! He should be able to dominate most DT's one on one - once he gets up to NFL speed. That's going to be very big both in the run blocking and pass blocking in the future. An offense that can control the defensive middle - has a big advantage run or pass.

I agree. Today he did great in 1 on 1's……"sexual chocolate!!!!! They play so fine don't you agree?"

I do agree!

I really really want to see Brendel, West and Poe play at center this preseason. I think Brunskill will also be fine at center. I don't really want to see him though. I think Brendel, West and Poe are younger and physically more talented than Brunskill.

My ideal situation. Poe (and I know he's a developmental player) wins the starting Center position, and we can trade Brunskill for a extra day 3 pick in the draft.

Brunkill played tackle in the playoffs against the Packers. He played really well there. Hopefully we make a trade for a center or NT before the season.

I think that definitely can happen if ShanaLynch can trade Jimmy and free up some cap space. I want to get younger and more talented at the tackle positions. But, for now, until I see the OLine in a preseason game - I'm going to be optimistic and say that we're good for now at the OLine.

Has Poe taken any reps at Center this offseason? I thought I only saw him at G. Think Brunskill, Brendel and West have gotten snaps at C if I'm not mistaken

Correct. Only at G.

This team is obsessed with moving players to different positions when they get here. I agree. He should be in legit competition at C.

Its interesting that he hasn't taken any snaps at center. I wonder why. I can see Kyle use his speed and athleticism on boots to lead block for Trey on certain plays.

Personally I like Poes athleticism and strength for the Center position, but that position also needs experience because of the protection/blocking calls.

It sounds like Foerster loves G's with long arms like Burford to help in PP. But then he's got Poe trying out at G too so it's very odd given he's much more natural at C and his feet/quickness would be huge from that position. And it's not like Brunskill or Brendel are running away with the job. LOL

Foerster likened Brendel's athleticism to Creed Humphrey. Maybe we just s/h drafted him. Ha

Well Poe is a long shot for sure. I love his athleticism on paper, but Foerster did mention something about having all the tools but can't change a tire.

I think if Poe can make the team even as a practice squad player, and if Brunskill/Brendel struggle in the first half of the season, and they will, Poe can possibly come in and show his stuff. Last year, at the Chicago game (8th regular season game) 49ers were thinking of putting in Banks because the entire Oline was struggling so bad.

So far, I like how the OLine is shaping up. Banks, Burford, look to be (I hope) upgrades and Brunskill, McGlinchy - I hope can do an adequate fill in job until next year where I hope the 49ers continue to draft more OLinemen.

Lots of hope in there. To me it makes no sense not try give Poe some experience at center. Foerester is very suspect to me. I mean we were spoiled forever with Mckittrick, but it's like, where are these awesome offensive line coaches nowadays???

I think finding those top tier OLine coaches are hard. I think OLine is one of the harder positions to coach. All five guys have to act like one. Other positions have 4 (WRs, DBs, DLine) players to coach as a unit. Just one aspect, the inside hand fighting, is a whole Bill Walsh PHd thesis in and of itself. Nevermind footwork, angles, speed, leverage, combo-blocking etc... which are entire years of learning for each aspect as a player and coach.

I think Foerster is one of the better OLine coaches in the NFL, and if he can turn Brendel, West, or Poe into an all pro, i think we'll have found bob Mckttirick 2.0.
Poe was arguably the best pulling guard in college football last year. Try him at RG and let him work. He may be a year away from being ready but I'd like to see Burford at RT and Poe at RG next year. Screw that, Brunskill is average at best playing guard….maybe Poe might be better by the end of this season

Poe gonna steal Banks' LG spot.

Agree 💯% El Jimmy! They definitely are trying him at guard and I think he has a shot at the 53. That frees up Brunskill to back up Right Tackle, Right Guard, and Center. Assuming McKivitz is being slotted for Right Tackle while McGlinchey is out.
