This deserves a bump. Brian Griese agreeing to come back for another year is a huge deal.

It is no accident that Jimmy Garoppolo had his best play ever since Griese came here. Brock Purdy brought a lot to the party but Griese's contribution should not be overlooked in all the hype either. Now with Trey Lance getting the keys to the Ferrari, he is going to need the close mentoring of a quality QB coach. Lance will now have everything in place that he needs to improve if he is to be the FQB.
yea, this could be the highlight of our offseason. Jimmy looked good, Brock looked great. Maybe he is a counterweight to the shanny game manager approach.

But why does it seem like there was a tough choice to be made here? He should have gotten a bonus and raise, happy to come back.

Agree and I will say this for Trey- VERY small sample size but its not like the offense was plodding when we faced Seattle. Ball was moving pretty well. I'm excited to see how Trey looks.

...and Griese should get a good share of recognition for what was happening in that game.

Now the big test will be if Lance can handle the same, more complicated offense that Purdy ran. Will Griese be able to make that happen? It would be no small achievement if he does.

If he can train up Lance he has the inside track for advancement.

If Lance becomes a franchise QB, forget OC, he will get HC interviews. Remember Zac Taylor was only the QB coach for the Rams.

Yes he should. Great work all around.

Does the team have a different offense for each QB? How many different offenses do they have?

The offense is the same. The plays called were not the same. The small sample of Lance's plays was not as complex as what Garoppolo ran or what Purdy ran later. Shanahan himself said that with Purdy he could call any play that he felt would work. The implication was that he had not been able to do that in the past.

Forget head coach, are we even sure Brian Griese is long for the NFL as a position coach? The fact that there were questions whether he was coming back in 2023 after one freakin' season is a bit worrisome. It sounds like the reality of being a NFL coach and the time commitment it requires made him and his family reevaluate whether he was coming back for the job. It sucks because he did such an awesome job with Purdy, and I'd love for him to stick around for awhile. I'm just not sure he will.

They talk about everything in the offseason. I don't know which stories have legs, but I don't see it as a big story yet.

This is straight from John Lynch:

He signed a two-year contract to join coach Kyle Shanahan's staff but had to sort out with his family whether to remain in coaching. His family remained in Denver during the season. He has a daughter who will be entering her senior year and an eighth-grade son.

"As much as he loved it, it's tough being away from them," 49ers general manager John Lynch said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "But they're well set up in Denver. He had to go weigh all of that.

"He had us nervous because you can't fight that. You can't say, 'Ah, no, that's not a big deal.' We understand that, so he went through that process."
Please keep this guy on the team.
