Very intrigued by this hire. I honestly have no clue if it's a good hire or not haha
Not too concerned about not having coaching experience. He has smarts, experience and Shanknowledge. Pretty good pedigree too. We shall see.
A few thoughts:

1. If you had name the three most direct coaching influences on Kyle, I'm sure most people would say: his Dad, Gary Kubiak, and Jon Gruden. Brian Griese played for all three Mike and Jon were a couple of his HC's, and Gary was his QB coach in Denver. Not to mention that Kyle was the OQC during his first stint in Tampa.

2. Anthony Lynn was teammates with Brian on the 98 (Super Bowl championship) and 99 Broncos teams, which should only further bolster the staff synergy.

3. I think the point made by Lombardi in his tweet was dead on. The ultimate vision for Trey is playing a Steve Young/Elway style paired of course with another Shanahan. Kyle brought someone in who he thought could help Trey get there from the neck up.

4. Yes, this is Griese's first shot at coaching, but he has played in an earlier version of this system in Denver and Tampa. He has seen the game from the position Trey is going to be in (under center). Being in the system, I think the belief is that he will able to help Trey know what to key on, whether be it mechanically, or knowing where his eyes should be on any given play.

Brian Griese was pretty good with the Broncos. Obviously this hiring screams Mike Shanahan/Kyle Shanahan and that´s great.
With Anthony Lynn and now Brian Griese, they´re really all in on Trey Lance and that´ s great.
Someone said that Lynch didn´t leave because he knew what Lance was capable of. I think it´ s more because John Lynch is a competitor but maybe there´s some truth there.
Honestly, I love these out of the box ideas that Kyle has since he came here. Like when he choosed to promote Demeco Ryans to replace Robert Saleh. I was really concerned by that and I was so wrong. And Griese like Ryans or John Lynch before has this NFL player background.
Besides Brian Griese had to replace John Elway with the two times superbowl champions Broncos. I think he will also help Trey in the mental aspect of playing QB for the 49ers. The pressure here is different and most of the times you live long enough to be the villain.

Good points.
What is tjis guy gonna do better than scange? What part of the plan for trey is he going to implement?

Would you have been upset if they hired Steve young as the QB coach?
So he's never coached before? If you've been a QB in the pros who had players under you, you've coached before. He understands the game, the position and what it takes to be a pro. If Trey is John Elway 2.0, I wouldn't be mad.

He has knowledge he can pass along to the QBs - I like the move.

This guy had to replace John Elway at Denver as a young QB. Imagine the pressure on his shoulders and that was with the two times superbowl winners Denver Broncos. I think sometimes we forget that these guys are human beings too and it´s a good idea to have someone that can exchange his own experience with Trey Lance.
A big part of "the monkey off my back" thing of Steve was that he had to deal with being the one that took the place of Joe.
And you can say that´ s not the same situation for Trey Lance because he "just" has to succeed Jimmy G. But the Niners were pretty good with Jimmy G and there´s also the three first round picks thing. The pressure is real.
So yeah Brian Griese never coached but he played the position at a high level, he was a pro bowler one year, he knows the system and he knows the big expectations a young guy has to deal with.
Ultimately Kyle Shanahan is the mastermind of this team but you never know with that sport. Every little help can be valuable at the end.

I think thats great too. But he's responsible for creating and implementing a structured training plan i assume? Passing on tips and tricks is great. But i assume hes in charge of the whole calendar too. No?
