What is tjis guy gonna do better than scange? What part of the plan for trey is he going to implement?

Would you have been upset if they hired Steve young as the QB coach?

Im not upset. He could turn out great. Im wondering, what is our curriculum for trey? I think trey is wondering the same thing by his last interviews. Is griese expected to fill out the whole plan? Is he being handed a plan? The latter would be better i think since this will be his first time in the role.

And to answer your question I'd be asking the same about Steve since he also has no experience coaching quarterbacks in a professional system. It's not about Splash hires it's about getting the talent from point A to point B

If you can't do, teach.

Honestly I think Lance is working on is mechanics with Beck/house in the off-season (that's when that stuff is done) and Griese will be involved with more of the mental aspects of the game in-season for Trey. It's a collaborative effort with a lot of hands helping out….end of the day it's Lance that has to put the work in to be great.

Agreed. Wasn't Griese more of a true pocket passer too? Perhaps that's an area he can help Trey in as well from a mental aspect...timing, internal clock, progressions, etc.

When the coaching staff can work with players…that's the start of in-season stuff imo.

Probably a good move for Griese. He was about to lose the MNF job.

Let's hope he's a better coach than analyst

Probably didn't have any other TV offers.

It's been a while, but I remember Griese to be a QB who played better than his physical and mental abilities. He was pretty accurate but would take risks and sometimes didn't see defenders. I also remember him being injury prone. Comes from a football family, so probably has a High Football IQ.

He might make a solid coach the more I think about this.

He seems to have the makeup of guys that tend to make decent coaches. Physically limited overachiever that was technically sound, tremendous footwork which is what Walsh and Shanahan both liked him about him coming out in the draft. He has a strong pedigree with his HOF father, has been surrounded by the game all his life and even after retiring, as an announcer he's still had to stay involved with analysis and breaking down film. I think he could be a very good addition.
Atmleast he's worked with Shanny before . Griese seems to analyze QBs well so we'll see if he can translate that into being a good teacher.
Trey really seems to be spoiled with the talent he has and the coaching he gets to have. With his work ethic I am confident he will be a top flight qb in the NFL.
