2022 is not the year for the 49ers to go all-in on winning the super bowl

Rams showed a formula for winning the super bowl. Collect lots of elite players and structure salaries so that you can pay the piper later. Whether that is the right strategy is debatable, however I definitely don't think they should take that approach for 2022. Don't sign the hottest cornerback on the market for 100 million. Instead focus on incremental improvements and trying to keep as much of your current team together as possible. The reason is that Trey is not ready. Let 2022 be the time where he grows as a QB. Then, based on 2022 results, you decide if you want to go all-in 2023.
2022 is a prime year for SB run. So is 2023, 2024, and 2025. After that, Trey will either be prohibitively expensive or we'll be looking for another QB.

Pay off the refs, get favorable calls, rinse and repeat. That's how you win the super bowl.

No risk it, no biscuit
Why wouldn't the goal be to win the Super Bowl this year? They almost won it the last 2 years that Jimmy was healthy and a lot of Niners fans are saying that Jimmy was holding them back.

As long as Trey doesn't suck, they should be one of the favorites to win it this season.

Why not though? What if trey sets the league on fire. This teams expectations are superbowl wins. They're not gonna phone it in. That's not what Kyle and John are going to do. This "not ready" stuff is irrelevant. As a rookie, yeah but we have jimmy. Trey has a year of nfl experience, he just needs live reps.

Good call....that approach has worked well since 1994-1995....
SF is too prudent to take this approach, and, to a point, I agree.

They're not going to make any splash signings, mainly because of paying their own first. The Niners being linked to JC Jackson or, more, recently, Bobby Wagner, is laughable.

They're also not going to trade assets for stars/veterans, mainly because they did that for Trey. Even if they get a few picks for Jimmy, the approach will be to keep the cupboard stocked and extend good young players.

But, if they feel like they're a player away, like in 2019 with Emmanuel Sanders, then I could see something happening in season before the trade deadline. But nothing crazy in the offseason is all but guaranteed.

And what if he plays like a rookie and doesn't set the league on fire? Do you really want to mortgage your future for this season where the QB may be holding us back? Will the 49ers try and win the SB in 2022? Sure, but that doesn't mean they damage future seasons to try and get it.

Not sure what you mean mortgage your future? I mean the team is built. You see it now. Deebo, Kittle, Aiyuk, Mitchell, Trent, McG, Trey, Bosa, Warner, Ward. That's the team. With JG hand and shoulder busted we very nearly won the Super Bowl. We were in the Final Four of the NFL and we went 3-1 vs the SB teams. With JG all busted up. I mean Trey could take his lumps and we can still get by with D (3rd in NFL) and run game, right? And Trey having a Mahomes style breakout is certainly possible.
Nice thread. Let's start making excuses for next year early. Well played bro. In before the lock
