It just makes me even more excited for the start of the season so we can watch these idiots choke on their words yet again while they try to pull their foot out of their mouth.

Agree 💯%, but the first goal is basically make the playoffs. Once in the playoffs, all things are possible! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

Yep, this lowly 10-7 6th Seed almost got to the SB, anything can happen.

And doing it while playing a record 12 road games.

I know right? 12 frigging road games, unbelievable, and the fact that they got so far is crazy, winning on the road.

It just shows you how deep they are and how much heart they have. And how much talent they have.

Yeah, from the starting 22, to the bench, to the PS players, everyone stepped up when needed, just hope they can go just 1 more game further, with a W this season.

Preach, you two!

It's always fun to revisit our original team needs coming in to where the 53, PS and I.R. reserve is today:

Original Team Needs: S/CB, ER (Speed), IOL (C & G), RT, SS, XWR (Speed), QB2, T (Future), TE2, SWR, ST (Returner)
FA Position Targets: S/CB, ER (Speed), IOL (G), RT, QB2, ST (Returner)
Draft Position Targets: S/CB, ER (Speed), IOL (C), SS, XWR (Speed), T (Future), TE2, SWR, ST (Returner)

How are you guys feeling today?

Final 53 + PS + I.R. Reserve:
S/CB - +Charvarius Ward, Samuel Womack, Jason Verrett, Qwuantrezz Knight & Dontae Johnson
ER (Speed) - +Drake Jackson, Kerry Hyder, Jordan Willis, Kemoko Turay & Alex Barrett
IOL (C & G) - +Nick Zakelj, Spencer Burford, Blake Hance, Jason Poe & Keaton Sutherland
RT - +Leroy Watson
SS - +George Odum, Taylor Hawkins & Tashaun Gipson
XWR (Speed) - +Danny Gray
QB2 - +Jimmy Garoppolo & Brock Purdy
T (Future) - None
TE2 - +Tyler Kroft
SWR - +Ray-Ray McCloud
ST (Returner) - +Ray-Ray McCloud

Overall:
Good to Great:
S/CB, you gotta feel great about this unit when you've got Jason Verrett on I.R. again and K'Waun Williams gone and your unit could be significantly better, deeper and younger. ER, this unit is an embarrassment of riches. QB2, is there a better backup in the league? X/SWR both look like homeruns early. ST (Returner), should be the best we've had since Ted Ginn Jr.

Concerns/Neglects:
IOL is concerning given all 3 veteran starters from last year are no longer starting (or, gone) and its all youth. Stay tuned. RT, now and for the future, was not addressed either making the OL the single biggest question-mark going in to the season esp. with Brunskill out for week 1, Moore and McKivitz playing poorly in pre season and McGlinchey having a set-back on his knee and still dealing with tendinitis. SS, there's some bodies here but with Ward out with a grade 3 hammy tear and only keeping 3 S's overall on the 53, there are legit concerns here too. TE2, remains an issue with Kittle unlikely to play week 1 and Woerner returning very late after a core muscle surgery.

Time for a mid-season look and how the FO did addressing our current personnel and team needs coming into the season. How is it panning out so far?

Final 53 + PS + I.R. Reserve:
S/CB - +Charvarius Ward, Samuel Womack, Jason Verrett, Qwuantrezz Knight & Dontae Johnson
SS - +George Odum, Taylor Hawkins & Tashaun Gipson
--- When Emmanuel Moseley went down, so too did our historic-paced #1 defense. The young kids in Deommodore Lenoir, Samuel Womack and Ambry Thomas all had to step up outside and inside to help out and have held up nicely but the drop off so far is pretty significant. But now Jason Verrett has been activated so TBD. Tashaun Gipson and Talanoa Hufanga, per PFF, have both played as high end starters and one of the best S-tandems in the game, so much so, Jimmie Ward has been activated and is now playing in the slot. If Jason Verrett can regain form to a solid #2 CB, this FO more than assessed it's own personnel very well here. However, one injury to CB and/or S, could have significant ramifications.

ER (Speed) - +Drake Jackson, Kerry Hyder, Jordan Willis, Kemoko Turay & Alex Barrett
--- What more can you say about the depth on this unit? It's so deep and talented, many of the ER's play inside as well in race car packages. One area I didn't assess well was the depth along the IDL. While being very deep at the edge, with losing D.J. Jones, there wasn't much room for additional losses inside. And we lost both (Javon Kinlaw and Arik Armstead). That proved costly in a loss to Atlanta who had a power run scheme. John Lynch tried to trade for at least two higher end DT's. He also brought in T.Y. McGill. I think there was less concern here given several of the edge players were also playing inside. But TDB on this one. There are a number of veteran pluggers still out there in FA.

IOL (C & G) - +Nick Zakelj, Spencer Burford, Blake Hance, Jason Poe & Keaton Sutherland
RT - +Leroy Watson
T (Future) - None
--- No question, the single biggest concern coming into the season was the OL and specifically, IOL. And rightfully so with 3 new starters and Mike McGlinchey having a "set back" right before the season started and no higher end talent to spell there. But even with games missed by both tackles, the IOL and the return of both T's is proving to be one of the most stable and consistent units we've had thus far...so much so, Jimmy has been kept clean and our passing attempts have skyrocketed to 14th, the highest of the Kyle Shanahan era. It'll be interesting to see how they address the C and RT position next year but so far, you have to be extremely pleased with the FO's assessment of our OL thus far.

XWR (Speed) - +Danny Gray
SWR - +Ray-Ray McCloud
TE2 - +Tyler Kroft
--- While the FO clearly tried to address this with Danny Gray and Ray-Ray McCloud, the returns so far has been lackluster at best in the passing game. Gray is getting virtually no snaps and McCloud has done a solid job in spot duty but clearly isn't a quality deep threat. Kroft has been mostly inactive, Woerner has regressed as a pass catcher and Dwelley is about as average as it gets; solid FB and spot duty; reliable hands.

QB2 - +Jimmy Garoppolo & Brock Purdy
--- Jimmy may have saved our season after Trey went down early.

ST (Returner) - +Ray-Ray McCloud
--- As a punt returner, McCloud has done quite well (top 5?) but his kick off returns are at the bottom so this is a mixed review at best.
Acquisition of Tarvarius and Gipson really helped our glaring weakness at DB. And then Talanoa went off. That left the IOL, and thru 7 games, it looked like an ongoing problem. Then we sign McCaf., and while i liked the signing, i sure was hoping for an IOL instead.

But who, except maybe JL/Kyle knew that getting McCaf would shore up our IOL, by virtue of defenses now could only rush 4, and not 5, or McCaf would eat them alive if they brot 5. This was Lombardi's idea, but no question, Rams in 2nd half had to put one, and sometimes 2 guys on McCaf no matter where he lined up , thus.making our OL able to play the Rams front 4 even. If they brot a 5th guy, then McCaf either slid right by them thru a seam or he caught the bailout and ripped them a chunk.

Suddenly, wallah…the OL looks way way better, because now, it is just 4 guys rushing and 1 or 2 others having to account for McCaf. Instantly and overnite…our OL looked like STUDS. Who in the world saw THAT coming?

CMC unlocks the offense. He's the key. We should give him the key to the city already. LOL

I'll give him the keys to my pants if he helps us win the super bowl this year.

I'll add that to my OP!
At this point in the season, and looking at our upcoming free agents, specifically at OT, LB, DE, and S, I feel like areas where we could definitely add competition and/or improve our depth would be at all of those spots, and then IDL and center, which I think is plenty possible to accomplish with the picks we have, even though none are particularly early.

Continue to keep the trenches stocked on offense and defense. Make sure to keep our LB depth intact. And with Ward, Gipson, and Moore all being FA, we really have no choice but to pickup a safety. IMO, that needs to be one of the earlier picks if possible.
Probably the injuries at DT and CB makes those positions important spots to add players in the draft. Also if Jimmie Ward and Mike McG are too expensive then FS and RT are also important. LB and DE look covered to me.
