Not a bad signing. Frankly I'm glad they went with someone younger than Gilmore who's probably exiting his prime.

Gilmore would have been the better option, probably cheaper too.
Id rather get a young up and comer who will be going into his prime, than sign a old Gilmore and hope he still has it and doesnt get injured.

Meh. The next Nate Clements

Except that Clements signed an 8 year deal and Niners made him the highest paid defender at the time. Ward's deal is a 3 year deal.

Still, overpaid, overrated. There we're better options available.

Nate Clements was actually pretty good tbh.

Agree with you that there were better options.

Ok this seems solid

Too bad the 2 times he faced a real #1 in Ja´Marr Chase he got destroyed.

Now he only has to face Kupp, Hopkins and DK twice.

I don't get what people are talking about. I just watched the AFC championship highlights and I think he only gave up one catch to Chase. He did have a big miss tackle on a RB screen though.

Watch it yourself. If this is the terrible game he supposedly had. I don't see it.

Yeah probably Gilmore. But this signing signals that this team is banking on the long game with a guy only 25 and improved each year. Hoping we finally have a number 1 corner we've needed desperately.
Prior to the 49ers signing anyone today: WZ = "Good. Day 1 is when you overpay. Glad the 49ers didn't overpay today."

49ers sign Ward: WZ = "Great signing. Will really work out given the 49ers' pass rush."

For those who have been consistent, either way:

I believe in filling the holes through free agency prior to the draft because it allows to draft BPA rather than trying to force a pick based on need. Or, it allows to move up or down to grab a player you really want or wait for the same tier player later.

The guy may have some upside but this FO has overpaid again for a middle-of-the-pack FA (like they did with Jet McKinnon, Malcom Smith or Kwon Alexander).

At least he's healthy, that's something to be thankful for I suppose.
A young 6'1" DB, checking his stats, signing approved.
