They don't need him to be as good as DJ Jones. Improvement on the back end along with a hopefully improved pass rush is going to put the defense in a better position overall. If they can get anything out of Kinlaw then that would be another boost. Find a guy that can take some snaps and handle the run. You don't need him to be a world beater, just hold up inside and eat some double teams.

We may go from top 3 in run D to top 10. No big deal. We improved in coverage with the Ward signing so that outweighs the drop in run D

Kinkaw was good vs the run, he actually swatted some passes which no Niner D lineman could really do and if he's out, Givens isn't bad at all

I love all the handwringing over how much the team overpaid. Hey guess what, everybody signed in the first wave of FA is basically overpaid to an extent. Typical Niner fan: "we don't ever sign anyone for s**t on the first day of legal tampering." Same Niner fan: "Damn we f**king overpaid the hell out of that guy."
Keep in mind the max total on the surface will 99.9% never amount to 42 million.

yeah and compare 3 years 42 vs 5 years 82.5 for jc jackson. both undrafted players in 2018 class.

You bet your ass Mayo. We finally addressed the cb position. Now if we sign Verrett we are covered. I do want a pass rusher but maybe we just draft one in the 2nd round

Last year we were a good cb away from winning a SB. (Besides injuries to Verrett Ford Mostert and Trent Williams) so this is a good signing

I was in the camp of signing a star Pass Rusher to help Nick Bosa but if not it was a good idea to sign a good CB.
I wanted Stephon Gilmore. I think he was the right final piece of the puzzle for the Defense. Now Ward has shown some good things the last season.
He´s young and can improve. The contract all things considerated is not that expensive for the CB market. It´s only three years. We´ll see.
I´m not super excited by that move but it´s an interesting one with some upside.
