Judging by some of the fans comments on here early on in the thread it appears we have one of the most dumbest fanbases in the nfl. Oh no we didn't sign so so that I heard of!!!

Ward is a good corner. FYI there are no lockdown corners anymore and the game is designed that way.

The best corner in the NFL (Ramsey) was burnt and picked on by the Rams. The corner with the most interceptions this year was also top 5 in most yards given up.

Ward is young and he is good.

He's a little inconsistent (allowed 4 TDs) but if he's been improving every year and he ranked as a top 15 corner in so many categories including a top tackler we are finally solid at the cb position.

One thing I do like about him is he gets his head turned around a lot so he knows how to play the ball which it seems like we haven't had a cornerback with that ability in decades. Plays good in phase. I'm liking this signing more and more

Don't know anything about chiefs db room. Maybe he can bring some knowlredge. Hear he is a good tackler. Not a lockdown guy but plays most but not all games and can wrap up a ball carrier.

14m per year is a little pricier than we'd want and he played 13 games in 2021. So There's risk.

We could have re signed jones for this money. So you have to ask yourself who hurts us more on the field kinlaw or norman. Probably norman.

I love how people say $14APY yet they said "worth up to" let's stop using that to justify his worth when we don't even know his actual cap hits.

This sounds like what Shaquill Griffin got last yr with a little less GTD cash.
What were our secondary issues last season?

- Injuries
- Multiple PI's per game
- A glaring weakness in the secondary that was routinely exposed when our rush couldn't get home.

So we sign a reasonably durable CB with only 2 PI calls all last year and put our secondary in a better position to not have that one glaring weakness that will help buy our rush an extra few steps to get home.

WZ: Rrrraaaaahhhh!!!!!

Told ya this was the route they would go

I love the signing personally. He's only 25 and consistently improved. People b***hing about the money don't even know what the real money is actually….when you hear "worth up to" that doesn't mean his cap hit is $14M per and another dumb reason why that term shouldn't be used (even though that's what everyone does). Numbers that get tossed out early are from the agents and they want it fluffed up as much for the public to see. We all should know by now that's not how it ends up in most cases.

You did say it was more of a Niner move so good call NY. I did not want 2 top 30 corners I really wanted a top 10 guy like Jackson even if he costed 3 or 4 million extra per year or however you want to calculate the guaranteed money.

I won't be too upset because at least we finally addressed the corner position long term (I hope) for the first time in forever.

Do you like the way he turns his head in coverage all the time? He's plays very well in phase so with our front seven he's going to be in a position to get a PLETHORA of interceptions and that's something our corners are probably a bottom 3 team in the NFL and that is just not acceptable any way you want to slice it, you can't defend that glaring weakness by our corners.

Didn't know much about him before the signing but I'm liking what I've seen so far. Arrow up.

Ward is better than top 30 dude. Jackson almost got twice as much GTD money which is what matters. I'm always wary of signing pat guys. Gilmore is older and I'm not all about signing older DBs unless it's like a one yr deal.

Ward's best ball is ahead of him and has constantly got better. He's got all the measurebles you want in a DB. I liked what cinci did last yr at DB and this is similar imo
We have 3 corners that can start and a possible 4th if Verrett is signed. Can still draft two more guys and somehow this is spun as a bad thing.

Totally frees us up in the 2nd round pick. We can go OL, edge, safety, or even BPA.

Whether he is top 20 or top 30, it's not really a big difference, and I think you missed my point. I was saying I wanted a top 5-10 corner which is what Jackson has proven to be instead of a player like ward who is improving and we hope he will keep improving, however that's a pretty decent drop off in terms of at a bare minimum Jackson superior play making ability. Evidence by the most interception since 2017.

Bill Belichick helps but if you watch Jackson play he sticks to his man very well and makes turnovers looks so easy because of him not Bill Belichick. A corner like that would make us the favorite in the NFC imo. I'm just very happy we have two good corners now

We should find a way to keep Verrett as an insurance policy. Our secondary will be solid then.

I agree. Or Casey Hayward (he's been my man crush since his rookie season)

He's proven to be that on NE which seems to happen to a lot of players in NE then when they leave that ain't that. Scheme, system, and players around you matter. Yes I watch him I live in the NE football market. Why didn't they pay for him? They had the cash and a QB on a rookie contract all the same.

Yes jackson gets TOs hence why he was paid a lot…also INTs are not some static thing yr to yr for a DB. It's a horrible tool to evaluate a CB long term. One stat I like with Ward is he only allowed a 38% completion rate when targeted in man coverage in 2021…that will help everyone on defense and allow Ryans to get more creative.

you do NOT need a super star DB in todays league…teams have multiple WRs that kick ass and play a ton of 11 personnel. You need a bunch of good DBs and I'll spend money on two good DBs vs one really good one. The days of "lock down" DBs is done.
