i keep forgetting we signed this dude. if he and verrett both end up being solid to great starters…..look out

SB 6 imo

Verrett is gravy. We have three quality starting-level outside CBs. Verrett would make it 4.

Our slot CB position is definitely more of a concern.

True. DD played well in the slot right off the street in the last few games. So we may have a drop off in the slot but a MAJOR improvement at outside cb. Net gain

effin kooper cupp plays out of the slot often, such a slut he is

We are just going to roll coverage/help to that target whore when we play them. Either way, we own the Rams, even when we are severely injured like always.
I like this signing more and more. Ward got a lot better each season and it looks like he is still growing and getting better player on & off the field. This could be our best FA signing since Justin Smith. I really believe that! A 26yr old corner who could be on the verge of being a pro bowl player.

Verrett is not starting and may have a hard time making the team. Ward, Mosley and Ambry Thomas are clearly ahead of him on the depth chart while Womack is pretty much a lock to make the team so you have 1-2 CB spots open with Verrett, Castro-Fields, Dontae Johnson and Knight battling it out. Castro-Fields is raw but talented and can play CB & FS and is a good ST's player. Knight looks like a solid nickel back in the making and can also play a role on ST's. Donate Johnson, while I'm not a fan the coaching staff seem to be and he can play CB & safety and again, can play on ST's. Verrett on the other hand, has limited ST's experience and value. Now, if he is healthy, yeah all that takes a backseat and I think Verrett has a good chance to make it but it's far from a lock and can Verrett actually stay healthy??? He's really only been healthy for 2 out of his 7 or 8 NFL seasons. I'm def rooting for him though.
This will be the 1st time in many years where we are going into training camp not worried about our CB depth. This time last year we were saying if we lose Verrett we are screwed. As of right now Verrett might be our #4 CB. If he fully recovers from the injury he could be our best corner, Even better than Ward. Imagine having Ward and 2020 Verrett as our outside corners? And still have Eman and Thomas as depth. Put that together with Jimmie at safety and our Dline and linebackers and I don't see how this can't be the best defense in the league. Yes as right now we have a question mark at the #2 safety spot and nickel but what team in the league doesn't have 2 or 3 question marks in some area of the defense?
Im with you 100% on this. We have a great shot at being the best defense in the league. As always, we have to have some chips fall our way, but the table is set.

Exactly. Last year we were 3rd in total yards given up WITHOUT
Ford
Verrett
Greenlaw (for almost the whole year)
Kinlaw (for almost the whole year)

Not to mention in 2020 EVERYONE was injured and we were still top 10

So with a relatively healthy D we are easily 1st in the league imo

I could totally see that. The only thing they need to improve upon is 3rd down stops (wore themselves out at times) and not giving up 7 immediately after we go up 2 scores. And P.I.'s and key penalties although, I believe that's behind us.

It'll be fun to see how Ryans evolves the coverages this year.

I'd have to disagree with that. Assuming Verrett Is healthy, he'll most likely be the starting CB with ward and Moseley In the slot. Kyle and Lynch prefer experience over youth all day long, but it's like I said, this all depends on the health of Verrett. He's easily the best CB on this team when at full health. Fingers crossed for him.

If we can get top 10 CB play on a top 15 contract I'll take it!!
Sounds like Kyle, John and Ryans are all pretty excited about him…he's looking even better than they hoped for. Still early in off season stuff I know.

he was one of my targets in FA
We leaked oil badly all last yr in D backfield. Just no way anyone can look at not just Ward but all our DB acquisitions and not say we have not improved DB immeasurably. The NFCCG was a grim reminder that DBackfield needed major league remake. Stafford put an exclamation point on the fact that we just couldn't cover. I'm as happy with the improved DBackfield as i am with any other slots on the team. Altho controversial, i think we did equally well with IOL also.

We are going to have growing pains, including new QB/new Center, but if we can make it to 11-6 and playoffs once there…i don't see anybody beating us in playoffs. We are way better at DB, hopefully better at IOL, and just hope QB/C gets on track early on. If so by end of yr…nobody is going to want to play us …but we gotta get to playoffs first.

K'Wan WIlliams allowed 9 receptions on 11 targets. He played well for the 49ers in previous years but he was bad this past year and i think teams noticed and picked on him/ Glad they are moving on. Backfields are weird in todays NFL. The premier corner (J Ramsey) got torched in the super bowl. multiple times The leagues leading interception leader also was top 3 in most receptions and yards allowed. Its impossible to play corner.

I thought Stafford struggled a little bit honestly but I guess he made the plays when they mattered the most except for the Tarrt dropped interception.

Kid is pretty underrated among the league imo. Only WR that truly got the best of him last season was Chase and he did everyone in. Ward's best attribute to me is staying on his assignments hips when in man; dude really doesn't allow much separation. If he can turn more of his deflection's/dropped picks into picks then I guarantee he'll be noticed and talked about more. This was a great signing
I've thought from day 1 that this signing was underrated by a lot of people in here. He's why they didn't draft a CB early.
