Mooney wasn't a big name when he came here, so I wasn't expecting a lot from him. Basically thought he'd be a decent starter.

He's been much better than that. Turns out giving a decent corner a good pass rush makes all parties better. How strange.

Haha. That's true too.

He & Moseley are a great starting tandem, need to extend Moseley, both look like lockdown/shutdown CBs so far.

Saw them flash that stat on MNF. That is a hell of a stat. "Lowest completion % when he is the nearest defender" was the stat.
qbr 33.7 pff 80.1

hope this lasts

If we only had a top 10 qb! We'd win the super bowl easily , perhaps another 55-10 showing. Sucks not having the ONE player that'll take them to the promised land. Just one piece!

We seem to not be getting those penalties much anymore. Once Verrette ia back, and Ward ( safety), we will have a very good back field.....and it's very solid now. Maybe we should use Verrette sparingly and save for the play-offs. Mosely and ward are doing very well.

Ironically now, our offense sucks haha

It's a shame. This might be the most complete defense we've had in the last 25 years if not longer and it's likely going to be wasted.

We're gonna crush our division and walk through every other team in the NFC playoffs.
Against Buffalo in the superbowl though?

Ok, no. If this defense is really special, Jimmy is enough QB to get it done. Bears, Bucs, Ravens….TWICE went home with the trophy with a lesser QB than Jimmy. I hope this D is that nasty, but if not it's another really good defense on a good but not great team. Our O line is a much bigger liability than our QB. But lot of games left and I'm giving everyone the same expectations as Trey: show me improvement every week and we could certainly walk away with it at the end.

Ahmed Plummer

that is what i had in mind, a CB with that had a reputation of success because teams went after the other side. When teams finally targeted him, you could see his success was paper thin.

Looks like Mooney upgraded the defense around him by coming to the 49ers. He is well worth his money on this team.

Defense has got alot of impact players, but more importantly they have alot of "not a weakness" players too. You need those to be historically good.

I mean it's possible. The defense I think, if healthy, will be better than 2019's.

The d-line maybe isn't as elite. Bosa is better than he was a rookie. We don't have a Buckner in the middle but keep in mind Armstead will come back. But the parts and pieces work. Several guys other than Bosa got sacks Monday night, including Ebukam with two of his own. I think Ridgeway even got in there at the end. Omenihu, we really haven't seen Turay yet and we know he has pass rush talent- and Drake Jackson.

The thing that seems better than 2019 to me is the secondary. Sherman played great but we know/knew he had lost a step due to age and injuries and it showed a couple of times in the post season. Ward is younger, (Mooney), Moseley is more experienced than he was then, and the safeties are a deeper/better group.
Agree with all above, but also tip of the hat to Kyle and Demeco for dialing up the blitz. I mean 7 sacks and 11 hurries. Sheesh. And against the Rams of all teams. But as Bosa said and you posted, "we now got superior talent at all 3 levels, DL, LB and now DB. All 3 are not just good, they are spectacular, but Demeco gets a nod of the cap also. Just A++ all around the D.

Ask this question: who is the one D that nobody wants to face this yr? Yup…ours.
All three levels are b+/a- individually. Together they are a+.
What makes it even more is that Jimmie Ward and Jason Verrett haven't even played a snap this season.
