With the recent contract restructure announced today I started thinking about George Kittles production in big games. Specifically, playoff games. Did some googling and found that Kittle only has 15 catches for 179 yards and 1 td in 6 career playoff games. He comes up extremely small for whatever reason. I cannot think of a big playoff moment he's had. What do you guys make of that? A player being paid that much who's that talented doing so little when the team needs it most.

Thoughts.........

We didn't execute.
He doesn't have many as a receiver, if any. It's a legit question.

However, also none of our WRs have it, and neither has our QB during these games.

Deebo got his big moment only in this run, and pretty much as a RB.

I think there's a pattern here as the biggest moments in playoffs with Kyle as the HC were only done by:

1. Running backs/run game
2. Defense
3. Special teams (GB game)

QB, conservative scheme, ultra focus on the running game, Kittle stuck pass protecting (see Superbowl) when it matters most, defense allowing long time-consuming drives, decoy, etc.

Defenses stack the middle of the field cause that's Jimmys sweet spot. We saw close to the most single high safeties looks in the league last year which takes away seams.

That too. A ton of reasons.
I guess Kittle will have to throw the ball to himself. Does he have any experience under center or would he be better served throwing self passes out of shotgun? Kyle will also have to scheme up some other player tl touch the ball after Kittle throws it to keep this all legal.

In all seriousness there's a big difference between underperforming and being underutilized.
Kittle's the best TE in the league! #BEAST85
he's getting double teamed and triple teamed all the time and probably more in the playoffs

The Rams tried the angels in the hashes coverage and it worked.
Dude is a ghost when needed. Or Jimmy is blind. One or the other

What if Kittle said I'll only restructure if Jimmy is our starting qb next year

Then he should have also demanded a better pass blocking RT

Shanny doesn't trust Jimmy in playoff games, so Kittle doesn't get much work outside blocking.
Another point that hasn't been mentioned:

Low receiving stats doesn't mean Kittle is a poor playoff performer, as playing Tight End for the 49ers means you also block A LOT. Kittle plays a huge role in the running game. Not sure what it was this past year, but in December 2019, there was a stat that showed our rushing YPC with Kittle on the field is 4.9 ypc, and when he's off it's a paltry 3.0 ypc. A huge reason why our rushing scheme is so successful is because of the blocking ability, versatility, and football IQ of Kittle and Juice.

Given that our 4-2 playoff record during the Shanahan/Lynch era has largely been powered by the run, I think it's safe to assume Kittle's doing his part.

I asked what Kittle biggest playoff moments have been. I dont think he is a choker. I think you prioritize finding a way to get a star player the ball more than twice a game in the playoffs. Otherwise whats the point of having said star player. To block? Youre right he doesnt magically become a worse player. Seems like the only reason we scored any points at all this last playoff run was due to Deebo being force fed the ball. We found a way to do that with our bad QB. Find a way to get it to George too is what im saying...yal aint gotta be so protective when the playoff numbers speak for themselves.

A criticism for under-utilizing one of the great offensive weapons in the league is a fair discussion point.
However, your OP comes across as pointing the finger at Kittle:

Kittle's post season production has been a huge frustration of mine, but I wouldn't really out it on him. The deeper and deeper we get into the playoffs the more its like pulling teeth to get any passing yards. I haven't watched the games over again or seen all 22 so I don't know what to blame exactly

He had what wouldve been a huge play in the SB if not for a ticky tack OPI that would never get called 95% of the time.

But we haven't had a great passing attack since like 98. Some things never change.

Brought this up in the Brittle thread. Apparently the consensus is that i am crazy for questioning his lack of production.

The excuses are as follows:

Jimmy Sucks.
We are a running team
Cant pass protect so he needs to be the 6th.
