We really need to find a ST coach worth a s**t. I also don't understand why Kyle doesn't just tell him to make sure Moody kicks the ball out of the end zone every time and stop trying to get cute on coverage.

The #49ers and special teams ace George Odum have agreed to a two-year extension worth up to $10 million, per his agent Matt Glose.

The deal puts Odum at the top of the core special teams market. pic.twitter.com/T5RBdi68F1

If Moody keeps kicking it into the endzone, and Wishy continues to punt well, shouldn't that de-prioritize the need to pay a premium for ST gunners? I guess not.

Glad Lynch is aware of where our priorities lie.

New kickoff rules may change that strategy

If you're going to have the top special teams player in terms of salary; wouldn't it make sense that player is a kicker, punter, or returner?
He's not that good. Mostert was a far better special teams player. And there's a ton of safeties in the draft.

My guess is that he will compete with Brown for one of the starting safety spots. This is a signal we are moving on from Gipson.

Shouldn't be paying "special team studs" and was he even that good?
they have a million day 3 picks. If you're incapable of running down the field and tackling someone, you shouldn't be in the NFL anyway. Draft a player that can do that and possibly develop into a position player. Waste of more $$
the rules are making guys like him not matter at all. So we're basically resetting the market for STers and FBs

Surprised you're saying this. UP TO 10 mil WB, he's an absolute stud on special teams and good to have in our young safety room.

When Odum was first acquired, I thought he would contend for a starting spot. After watching him play safety in the preseason, I remember thinking he is not a starter quality safety on a contending team.

No he isn't. Brown is a starter. Odum Stinks at S, he's barely backup caliber there.

Here comes the 49er dick gobbler lol
Remember that the 49ers dropped from #15 to #25 DVOA in 2023. The loss of George Odum down the stretch was a contributing factor. Returning to at least the middle of the pack on ST is key for 2024 and beyond, hence the Odum extension
