Has he galvanized our coverage groups to be elite? No. He's not even a gunner.

He has 22 solo tackles in his two years here. Zero forced fumbled.

He's not supremely fast. I can't remember a single hit of his that set a tone.

WHAT THE HECK ARE PEOPLE SEEING WITH THIS GUY?!

Bingo. Wasted money

It's not like I'm saying he sucks... but Kyle has never put a focus on special teams IMO. So leading THIS team in ST tackles is not that impressive to me.

What was impressive to me, was Chris Conley's performance at gunner in the playoffs. Or Mostert at gunner. Or that one guy we signed from Detroit around 2013, he was like 6-5 WR that made a lot of plays. Hell, even Bubba Ventrone. That's a special teams ace.
ok i just looked at this for a 3rd time...2 year extension worth nearly 10 million. That can't be right.

I don't know, maybe that is a bit much for what he does

If he's actually getting 5 million a year then Lynch needs his head examined. Asking Juice to take a pay cut and then give George Odom 5 million a year. Most kickoffs are touchbacks. We piss away more cap space then I can count and then have to watch Spencer Burgord,McKivitz and Ambry Thomas as starters. Shaking my head.

It's a good extension but the money is too high. A good special teams player. But quite a cap hit for what he does.
My live reaction to the Odum signing:

I don't get this either. ST was not good. He was hurt. He's in his 30s
He is a backup safety in a market where you can find a vet starting safety like Gipson a year ago for less money.

I try to stay positive but this seems like a luxury signing. We don't have that luxury currently, I know a lot of these signing align with Brocks payday but damn. As someone else said too, ask juice and Arik to take a paycut then pay a special teamer 5m a year.
Chinn signed a 1 year deal worth $5.1 Million. Niners could have had him for the same price they paid Odum.
